Style suggestions for 5’5 male

Hello everyone, I am a 5’5” male, and for several years, I haven’t placed much emphasis on fashion or dressing appropriately for different occasions. However, now that i am working, I would like to refresh my wardrobe with business casual and classic pieces. I should mention that I have a slightly fat figure around my waist and thighs, although I am actively working on becoming healthier. I also live in Germany, and I understand that my unique build might present some styling challenges. I would greatly appreciate any advice on styles that suit my proportions as well as brand suggestions. Thank you very much for your support!

Happy to have you! First things first, having a better idea of the kind of way you want to dress would help us help you better. Referencing “business casual” does suggest a certain direction (tailoring, chinos, etc) but you might have a different idea in mind, especially given that what “business casual” is can depend a lot on your specific workplace or environment. If you need help finding inspiration pics, #waywt and #inspiration always good (check out #waywt-highlights and the archived top waywt channels down the channel list too). Also, having a budget in mind for individual pieces changes everything about recommendations, so having that will help us too. For your concern about your figure, don’t be worried, figure mostly just influences what sizes that you buy, it doesn’t really have much factor on styling outside of that. One thing I will mention as you dip into this, especially considering you’re actively working to change your physique, take things slow and don’t buy a bunch of stuff all at once. And also it might be good to start on the cheaper end particularly if you anticipate your clothes not fitting quite right as you lose weight/gain muscle/etc. starting off cheaper and slower means if you buy something you end up not liking as much (very likely to happen as you discover your tastes), you at least spent less cash on it .

I’m the same height as you and I came to realization that a lot of the advice towards us is kinda bs. I made a post about it last year: https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1293415953521967134 Brand suggestions is kinda hard because you need to look more at size charts than just the brands themselves. You can wear almost every brand if you find the right pieces. I take most pants to a tailor to hem them.

Thanks a lot for the advice and insight. The work environment is relaxed, yet the dress code tends to be classic and somewhat conservative, particularly in winter. During the summer months, shorts and T-shirts are permissible, although most employees prefer a casual yet refined appearance. In colder weather, it is customary to wear a pullover or sweater layered over several garments.

During winter, these are some examples..Under the pullover or sweater some layers of shirts or t-shirts are added..Over the pullover usually a jacket or winter coat is added.

Seems doable. It’s clothing that’s sold everywhere. I don’t know Germany that well but I imagine you can check out COS, Asket (which has short sizes) and Uniqlo
