Trying to Host a Server for me and my Brother
I'm running a 1.21.4 Fabric server with Distant Horizons and C2ME installed on a Raspberry Pi 4 (4gb ram with 3gb dedicated to the server). It's... not great. Lagging a decent bit, looking for something cheap around $5/month, maybe up to $10/month if it's going to keep it lag-free.
What are the best options for hosting a small server like this nowadays? Been out of the server-making game for quite a while.

I'd go the self-hosting route off my PC or something, but I can't port forward on my apartment's wifi. my brother's the one with the pi hosting the server, but he isn't very experienced with it and he'd like to use the pi for other projects.
remove DH and opt for bobby on clients
the pi also sucks for mc hosting, bad single thread perf
your options are a provider or tunneling, if provider, join https://discord.gg/admincraft and see under #service-providers
if tunneling, you can either use playit.gg or fast reverse proxy
something like this isn’t much bigger than a pi and linux on it would work the same exact way as linux on a pi

For cheap you could try pebbel host
Pebble only has its use cases for cheap servers as they run ok enough
And defo better than a pi
looking at their budget plans, would i notice a difference between like 4gb and 6gb?
this would be my go to if i was able to port forward
apartment’s wifi is pretty much locked down which makes sense as it’s shared for the whole building
I mean, if your brother with the pi wants a more powerful computer for selfhosted stuff, that's where I'd start
eh, we were more so using his pi because it was available haha
it’s not terrible but i’ve died to lag a few times and looking for a cheap solution for now, i dont expect to be playing this server for a long time
then there budget plans would be my go to, they have anything you would ever need panel wise, and its a cheap option, id got for a 6 gb server
alright, i think i'll go for that if this new thing im trying doesnt work out
i've just transferred the world to oracle free tier and created a server there
seems to be performing decently well
that actually... runs decently well
aslong as its vanilla or optimized fabric etc
yea i’m sure it’ll shit itself if i have more players or do anything moderately crazy haha
ram doesnt directly increase performerance, in your case though since you run 1.21 with mods it will certainly prevent some spikes
