low fps on pretty pc
hey, i have 4060 8GB, Ryzen 5 5600, 16GB RAM, everything on SSD. Played BetterMC + Complementary on 1650 and got ~60 fps avg, switched on 4060 and still getting ~60 fps.
Tried to build a new modpack like vanilla, installed complementary and having poor fps. setted minecraft to get 7-9 GB Ram, still having poor fps... Dunno what's wrong so please help.

What resolution are you running at?
60 fps is perfectly reasonable
What's probably happening is you have a CPU bottleneck and the GPU isn't getting enough frames sent to it
Are both CPU and GPU being fully utilized?
FullHD 144hz, GPU 40%. Without shaders on 20 chunks getting 80 fps, thats so strange.
Yea i have bottlneck on CPU, but it's like 10-12% not a lot for minecraft being laggy
You got that number from a bottleneck calculator?
Because that won't apply to Minecraft
So how do i check it in mc?
Open task manager while the game is running
If you're seeing the CPU pegged to 100 and the GPU is sitting at 40 then your CPU isn't keeping up
Lower the thread count that Distant Horizons uses to 8 and that should fix it
MC eating like 60% of cpu and 36% of gpu without shaders
Yeah that's about right
with shaders the GPU should be pegged to 100 percent if the CPU has headroom to work
Wait a lil gonna apply
Still 60% on CPU and around 60% on gpu with complementary, also how to decrease cpu cores usage in DH?
Well you don't need to since both components aren't being used right that's weird
Lowering DH threads won't do it
that's what im talking ab, minecraft just dont want to eat my whole pc
win10 pro 64x
Yeah that is really weird...
You're running full HD. Have you tried to run the shaders at higher graphics and see if you can at least get better quality at 60 fps?
OH also you might have the FPS capped in the game 😂
Make sure that's turned off and VSync is also off and see what happens
nah, im playing games for 15 years, so instantly turning all of that off
more fps = smoother gameplay
Ok then I'm lost. Heck at least you're getting 60 which is pretty much the expected result.
max fm = unlim, vsync off
Is it stable unwavering 60?
Or swinging around from 60 to 50to 70 etc.?
Stable 70~ on ULTRA preset...
Like nothing changed lol
Ok well something is capping so I dunno
that's really good though
also the most strangiest thing is that minecraft with only mods (textures are only GUI) with 20 chunk render distance not getting me like more then 150 fps
like if you're not getting stutters with DH on and ultra shaders and what have you then you're good and you also have headroom for running screen recording and whatever else you might want on top of MC
Try removing Distant Horizons, see what frame rate you get.
That's a CPU bottleneck for sure
Would turning off the renderer and distant generator effectively do the same thing?
Nope. Distant Horizons always runs LOD updater in the background.
Dang
Do i need to remove in completely or i can turn off rendering in DH config?
Remove it completely.
If you use a fancy launcher, there's an option to turn it off from the mods list.
Prism to the rescue
Reloaded into mc without DH, still ~70 fps on ultra complementary
OH
Well
Now getting a lil more - ~90
Is that peak fps i can get from my pc setup?
Uplift from 70 fps to 90? That's well within margin when Distant Horizons is installed.
With that said, how's Task Manager looking?
60 percent on both GPU and CPU
Around 30% on cpu and 100% on gpu
Ah there we go
that's better
let's try lower shader settings
Okay, that means Distant Horizons is hogging your resources.
You generally want the GPU running 100 percent by the way
if it ain't running 100 percent it means the game isn't looking as good as it could be
Well some people experiencing poor utilization with the current release of Distant Horizons. Using a nightly version solves that.
@Squire Dot Have you put the latest release into the modpack per chance?
Only if i want my game look like real life, i want to get vanilla enchanced experience that i dreamed when i was kid, but still getting smooth gameplay
I mean 60 stable is smooth
17 ms frame time nominal and humans can't perceive less than 20 ms
They're using the latest from Modrinth, not a nightly, as seen from their image sent prior.
That's the version with poor utilization issue.
Yeah I know I'm just making sure that our pack didn't get the issue 😂
to be clear im very surprised that my pc setup can run very little modpack with based shaders only in 150 fps also with stutters to 110 or 180
I mean it might've but no big deal I suppose
1 percent lows being ass and Minecraft are like bread and butter 🤣
Xd
I can get 2000 fps at native 4K with my 3060 ti which is funny
No shaders of course
but if I look at the sky it gets close 😂
Also gpu util is crazy - 100%
Is there more ways to get more fps or at least stable 150?
Low graphics quality
but the CPU is what dictates the FPS in the end
if the CPU can't make enough frames the GPU won't render more frames
When shaders are enabled, you get whatever your GPU spits out if it's capped at 100%.
indeed
and if you lower the settings you're only going to get as much FPS as the CPU can generate before the GPU starts having headroom
Oh, i remembered
I capped cpu on 3.4 Ghz
So it wont overheat
:thonkwithshades:
WITH WINDOWS UTILITIES
like u know that mmm
Capping CPU clocks on a 5600?
battery usage or smth like that
laptop?
nah
What kind of cooler you're using, or what kind of temps you're getting?
just a poor fan
even not a tower
just a fan
stock cooler 💀
not stock, but still just a fan
Pretty sure the stock cooler is capable of keeping the temps within reason...
im having a mini tower setup
:concern:
so i have a poor cooling methods
Not using a stock cooler on the 5600?
yea i bought not boxed version
Good user, my 5600G runs with the stock cooler and it's handling Distant Horizons at max settings like a champ.
when bought it tried my cpu in dota, but it was overheating a little (maybe 75 on celcius), so i capped cpu usage on 99% with mmm how to say that
eco mode
lemme check up
yea eco mode
75c and you consider that overheating?
:ioa:
i know that is like WORKING temp
but capping in on 99% and cut 1GHz didnt make anything with fps in dota
so i thought that will be good
lemme try to switch and check temp now
soo now im on 4.450 MHz and according to msi afterburner im getting from 130 to 150
with 75c
jumping into 78c
oh well
all 80's
if you're under 85 C on the CPU you're fine
oh well
i thought like getting above 72c would decrease my cpu lifetime
oh, getting into 85c
nah lets turn off that
CPUs can handle up to 95 C in the end
havin a320m motherboard is a criminally stressing
cant tune my cpu at all
ty a lot guys, helped me feel that MINECRAFT phase for a few days
have a good day!!!!!
Remember! Don't stress over temps, if it hits 90 under load it's not gonna kill it, CPUs have thermal limits for a reason ;)
Enjoy da powah!
Only CPUs that would have a shorter lifespan when running above 85c are Intel 13th and 14th gen.
:linus:
Not anymore :haha_yes:
Erm I put 1.21.5
Which is latest ig
Gotcha
well no problem since there's a nightly with the thing fixed which I suspect it'll come out soon
I can't really put nightly builds in modrinth/ curseforge now
Ill-advised even.
Anyway 1.21.6 is around the corner so whatever fix there is will come to stable
yeah of course not suggesting that but since the nightly exists I suspect it'll be out soon enough to not bother until 1.21.6
I know all to well considering the disaster with people putting unreleased alphas into packs 💀
