As someone who plays heavily audio-based games on roblox, this new audio update nearly killed the platform for me
Half the games I used to play are either broken or would take forever to fix. All the vibe games I used to play feel so dead and empty (for example Vibe NYC used to have almost 10k players every week, now it has 86 players) it's like the personality has been drained out.
The rhythm games barely work now, too. For a while every FNF game didn't start because every song was gone except Monstercat. I haven't checked Robeats yet but who knows how stable that is right now.
I get that this is a necessary evil to avoid copyright and I'm probably being extremely dramatic, but it hurts to see all the games I love die like that.

I bought the radio gamepass on parkour a few months prior.

for me i havenโt noticed a difference, besides the fact some games iโve made have โaudio removedโ and โaudio censoredโ in the name.
one thing i expect is that low quality hangout games will die off soon. most music based games that rely on custom audio will also die out, but robeats and some fnf tracks are good rn๐

Honestly, they shouldโve done what they did a couple years ago when they faced music copyright: replace all removed audio with stock jazz. Why bother having good music when you can have music like Solitaire and Town Talk, all provided by Roblox.
That way, some games can still have a chance at retaining their playerbase.
If you think that this is a stupid and insane idea, wellโฆyou are correct, but Roblox apparently likes stupid ideas, so hereโs a stupid idea that can help the platform.

This should of been a thing when developer exchange became a thing. Companies and creators really only have a problem with copyright if the opposing party is making money. So if developers are making money using material that they didn't create and didn't have permission to use of course people are gonna have a problem.
Unfortunately millions of games now will be shot for a moment because audio is really important for a game. Idk if this update effects short sound effects but if it does then people will get random flags out of nowhere if their game has a small sound effect that they didn't make or have permission to use.

Yeah I got that message in Studio the other day about the audio changes but since I hadn't begun to add sounds to my game I didn't worry about it. I guess what I've got to look forward to is mundane music for my future games or to pay insane prices and royalties for any music I end up using. NCS is a good website for music but these days I hear the same tunes again and again and I'm kind of sick of them. What I may end up having to do is to pay a local artist for some tunes and buy the copyright or whatever so I own the music. Almost seems pointless as I'm not even an established developer.

literally my stance on this, most games i have made are showcases with bare bones scripting. i add music so it doesnt feel empty. i have a love hate relationship with copyright, its so needed yet so, oh so stupid

I have an old-fashioned 2011 club game that's a little hangout for my friends. I've noticed that roblox updates have broken the music player one of my friends made.

I see itโs been a while since you posted, but I just wanted to askโhas the situation improved for game devs relying on custom audio? I recently tried working on a rhythm game and syncing sounds manually is still a pain. Are there any newer tools or workarounds youโve found useful for handling audio better since all these changes dropped?
