Thoughts on the recent audio privacy changes coming to Roblox? - Roblox Forum
To keep things short and simple:
Roblox is going to make audio-upload free, but there's going to be a limit (Can be as low as 10 based on what I've seen) on how much you can upload. This limit can be increased if you verify your ID (To something like 2000).
Additionally, all future audios and published audios that are longer than 6 seconds are getting privated as Roblox begins to shut-down the audio library. They claim that they'll release a new way to share audio, but its release date is not yet certain.
Finally, Roblox is partnering with music-licensing companies to release more music and audios for developers to use.
Any thoughts on this? From what I seen, developers are hating this.

i'm glad that audio uploading is finally being free, and i understand the limit if it's free, but why should developers have to verify their id? that can be uncomfortable for many, especially since your id is pretty private info and roblox is just casually taking it. what if instead, you have audio uploads be free for all non-premium users with a limit, but if you have premium, there's no limit? that would solve a lot that's going on. but this wouldn't work because roblox is just... shutting down the audio library??? for no reason at all. this update is just really bad, and the only good things to come from this is making audio uploads free and partnering with music licensing companies to release music for developers to use. god

I'm actually not sure why they do that. It would make a lot more sense from a financial perspective. Roblox money/resources are spent to host people's audio, so it would make sense that the paying users would recieve those benefits.

Heard the saying : If it's not broken, dont fix it? I'm guessing Roblox didn't.
I've never seen such an awful update in my life.
OK but when? What if that Dev has quit, or banned? Is that sound ever coming back? No, probably not. What if roblox never allows us to un privatize those audios?
And the solution to this is their royalty-free music library. Why would they? Its just generic music. Name one player you've seen listening to Roblox's royalty free music with their radio access pass in a game. I dont know of many dev's who use it either. I dont think anyone wants to upload their personal ID in order to upload more audio either. I was already happy with the prices before. Both players and developers are going to be livid if this happens.
The number of games that will be broken will be out the window, and we're not talking just smaller projects, but its OK, you've got a week to find a replacement for 100's, if not, 1000's of audio files used in your games before this gamebreaking update is implemented, and that's just one game. What about dev's with more than one game? Safe to say they're not gonna have that fixed in time. I wouldn't be surprised if more than 90% of front page games were just silent for a week or month. I, and I'm sure many other's dont want to sift through thousands of audio files to
Sure, uploads are free now, but at what cost? Free audio isnt going to fix the loss of the masses already available, and surely this will just stress moderation with more bypassed audio.
I keep saying with a bunch of these questionable updates that Roblox will be ruined by it, but this honestly might be the one to do just that. There's a few OG games I like to play now, and this update would be the one to ruin them forever.

what a great way to fix a system, just by breaking it
10 audios per months, seriously? who'd want that?
and literally the most free audio for everyone to use will be simply gone, lmao
such an unbelievably garbage update

Replying to this thread again.
bunch of my audios just got taken down today. No refunds, no warning, gone. just like that.
They claim any audio above 6 seconds wont be taken down but thats a lie, its 5 seconds. I had an audio that was 5.603s long. Clearly under 6 seconds, but Roblox round it up to the nearest integer, so that 5.6s is now 6s. Great..
I've spent at least 5 years learning and improving on how to edit audio, but that was a waste of time and money according to Roblox. I shouldn't have to make whats left of my audio free for anyone to take just so that others will be able to hear the sounds in other peoples games that arenβt my own.
Smaller dev's are done for with this update. Assuming a game has 100 audios to replace, normal players can upload 10 per month. Thats gonna take 10 months to fully fix their game. 1000? 1 year, 8 months. and that's for one game. If they have multiple it could be years until they fix it.
I understand they've got to do something about copyright material, but this isnt the way to do it.

You can really tell that ROBLOX doesn't care at all about what the community has to say, and that they just make "blind" updates. This is about to ruin millions of games for a really long time...

The sad thing is, ROBLOX dosent care about the players, or investors or maybe even the staff. they only care about the money! atleast the RBLX stock crashed then.
