Background Blur: Yay or nay?
Getting my 💩 together to start recording some videos and I think I need a blur on my background when it's just my big fat head. Thoughts?
First is just my head, no blur. Second is a 10% Gaussian blur. Third is 15% blur.
Thoughts? Opinions? hashtag-roastMyImages

id rate them in the same order as the expression in the pictures
I think that the blur makes the background less obvious and more of a, well background image. No blur has lots of harsh lines that I feel draws the eyes away from me.

I'm using https://pixabay.com to find royalty-free images, if that helps any

Yeah, but at least he has something back there. I have an off-white wall. Ugly AF IMO
Even with my ring light on full, there's those pesky shadows and I don't think it looks good
Also, I'm using the background image for consistancy when I switch between big head and code

id just fullscreen the code and have it be the background
The problem with that is the right side of the editor is where the code output goes, so if I put my face there then I might cover up the code return values
You could go with Matt Pocock style...
slightly scale it up and fill the background with the same color as vsc

Another reason for the background image, though, is for consistency across various platforms. I use the bg image for YouTube, BlueSky, and Ko-fi profile cover images. I'm trying for consistency here, folks!

Consistency is consistency, my dude. Bad or good, it's recognizable
But I'm a logic guy, with no eye for design. So I have no idea what is "good" or not
If you'd like to donate an image I wouldn't say no!
another option if you are going to keep it, is to turn the opacity down on it to like 20-40%, just to make it more subtle.
You don't need it in the screen capture as well though, you can have it on the YT homepage and whatnot.
And this, ladies and gents, is why I've stuck to podcasting in the past 😭
Though I do also have this nicer (??) hexagonal pattern I've used here and there

I would say something between the last 2. The second one is not blurry enough to look intentional but the third one is too much for the pattern to be easily recognizable.
