Multiplayer does not work on modded 1.0 save.

We are on 1.1, updated all of our mods, removed 4 of them (they had red titles so they were incompatible). My friend is stuck in the loading screen. He is present in game (as his character) and is also invincible (if that helps debugging.) We've tried disabling "big" mods, but no success.
