I just finished my first building. Feedback?
This is a small little building that is placed directly on the output of a miner. I would appreciate feedback, does it look like it belongs on the miner?

I like it, you used game materials and details correctly, and you did a good job of "breaking up the box". If that was mine, I would make this top section secondary color, or just put more secondary on it in general.

Actually that's part of the miner lol. Sorry, I should have posted an image of just my model. Everything past the power indicator is mine.
upon looking at the first picture without reading the text, I internally said "not sure what they're talking about, I don't see anything new in this screenshot"
so uh, yes, it fits in pretty well in my opinion, haha
Woohoo! 😀
I assume that dish on top is from the awesome sink. does it not have a middle component? it kinda feels like ther should be something in the middle, be it a little stick or something of a different material/decal/pattern
activating hyper nitpick mode:
fact it kinda just interrupts the metal vents(?) without seeming to change the structure of the grating at all is a bit weird. I would thing there would be some sort of rim around the part where the orange meets the grates

can you reuse the same decal from the miner on the base of yours?

pinch hazard? but where would anything be doing the pinching? it looks like a mercer sphere inspired glass window, which probably wouldn't pinch anything

(at least I think that decal is pinch hazard)
You may want to consider small bevels on some of your more prominent edges. You have have polygonal edges and while it feels like SF is doing that, look closely and you'll see it's actually got thin bevels.
Plus, another good question is "how does this come apart for maintenance" it can help you avoid uber panels where you have 1 giant piece of metal going around 90% of the mesh
on the maintenance note, on the vanilla one it kinda looks like it would come apart like this

on yours it's not really clear what taking the screws out would do since it's one piece according to the edges

unless maybe it hinges open like this?

but the thing that look like hinge joints are at the miner side
and I've seen stuff IRL that badly designed. -but- if you're trying to figure out how to detail more open spaces it can help you logic in where to put seams and edges with decals
Would be funny if SF machines had to be taken apart to install power shards
Thanks for all the input! I broke up the large orange metal piece into multiple parts and made the corners chrome. I haven't done any smoothing yet. Does this look better?

There are two metal cylinders that border the miner and my model, these are to cover up some clipping. I thought it was fine (not great, but ok) when there was just one, but adding the second one makes me not like it. Any suggestions of what I could put there to cover up the clipping?

I also added a lip to the dish, does this look better than it was before?

I also changed the warning sign from pinch to radioactive. I want some kind of warning from the Mercer glow, either "If you stick your hand in this it will be disintegrated and uploaded" or "the glow is radiation."
Yes I can, I did, and it looks great. Thanks for the suggestion.
I agree the second one looks a little weird. the first one felt kinda right because it meshed nicely where the plates joined, but this one looks weird at an angle like that. I take it the new panels format means there is a new clipping spot to cover up?
seems it's not on the front(?) yet, might be nice to have it there too if it's the right length

Yeah, I noticed. Only 1 of the two sides is working. I have to fix the normals or something.
Yes. My mesh fits perfectly over the front panel of the miner. Any dip in the mesh exposes it. Since I added a separation between the sides and top there's a new bit that's poking out.
hmmm, another possible angle: it is not really clear where on the device it is being structurally supported, it's kinda just hanging off the miner. any structure must be internal to it. you could put some kind of bulky connection cover with screw plates on the top holding it in place.
kinda like this, although even drawing it out looks kinda weird

I don't want something super bulky "connecting" it to the rest of the miner. I decided to just put one of those light thingies over the clipping part. It's small enough it doesn't make the rest of the build look bad, but it isn't ideal. Unless someone has a suggestion I'm going to call it finished.

Why not extend this part?
Add this to yours to make it look longer
Hope you get what i mean
That'd mean editing the miner model though
I'd suggest attaching a leg at the end of the model for support, lol
Nah, i mean adding this structure as part of his model, not modifying the miner
Ah
I experimented with extending that part of the miner. It's honestly too much work to make it look seamless. This is just a mod so I don't want to put in several days work for just that.
