Black screen on boot with /home on other drive

tldr; PC turns on, boots into grub, and after loading bazzite, i get black screen thats unresponsive

My pc has multiple drives. 1 m.2 boot drive with 64gb, and some other hard drives with a lot more space. Started running out of free space badly, and thought to move my home (did rsync -avP to copy since i cant delete an active folder) and just use a symbolic link between the folders. Black screen on boot after changing fstab to new /home location. Tried switching back to the original home folder since it didnt work, so i went to grub menu, init=/bin/bash to change the fstab, and it worked, sort of. Things werent working properly, just like when i had removed as much as I was allowed while actively logged in, even tho the fstab had the original home folder. Checking dolphin, /var/home/tray was still the home on the other drive (identical new empty file showed up when I created one proving its the same location). Decided to reinstall bazzite, but only delete the home folder on the boot drive. but then i forgot to change any account details so i was on the user bazzite instead of tray. thought id just create a new admin user and delete the old one. as soon as i do that, and ln -s the home folder, it boots to a black screen again.

I made sure that this wasnt a secure boot thing just in case
