you should do both, work on projects until you get a job
and avoid having only small projects, try to have small once that demonstrate something weell and a big one that assemble those things (or others) into a more complex product that solves an actual problem (even if the problem is made up)
do you know any good idea?
nope XD
😁
try to find something that's bothering you and make a thing that makes it less bothersome
or look at comapnies inthe sector you want to work and try to replicate one of their products
do you think project like this i make are good?
what do you mean ?
.
i already make this projects
you should just make ... something
i once made a shitty tool to extract the text off of a docx file, in php
i made a tool that extracts and installs mods for a modding tool, in c# and batch
i made a tool to auto-install php, apache and mysql for me in a wsl vm
i even made an ini file parser for autohotkey
you really just pick a need and go for it
and it doesn't have to be anything super complicated
Also don't underestimate the power of soft skills. Coming across as reliable and trustworthy is vital. Know what you're good at and know where your gaps are. And show that. Also I know this isn't a job application but if you're applying to an english speaking company, show good english skills right off the bat. It's just about minimizing potential red flags. First impressions matter and even in software it's not always about code. If they get a bad feeling they're just gonna dismiss you before even knowing how good you are
But yeah if you're looking for projects to build, just do whatever you find useful, rather than minmaxing what'd get you hired. It'll be obvious whether you built the thing just to get a job or if you built it because it was useful for you
I built a garage door opener app, currency converter, image resizer tool and a bunch of other weird small crap that i wouldn't dare show to an employer. But it all helped me learn a bunch of frameworks and get new perspectives on different technologies
And importantly all of those projects solved a problem i had. I always find it fascinating when people ask for project ideas because i always have the opposite problem. Too much to build, never enough time to build it. I'm sure there's something that's been bugging you that you could build a tool for!
tnx for asnwers
