BOF4 Black Screen
Hello all,
Apologies, I am very much a novice when it comes to doing this kind of thing. I saw my favourite game from my childhood appear on GOG.com (Breath of Fire 4) and I've managed to download Heroic Games Launcher so that I can run the game on my MacBook Pro. (I'm amazed I got this far!)
The linking of account went fine, download of the game went fine as far as I can tell until I reach the point of launching the game on Heroic Games Launcher and it seems to load the game for a brief second before the scene goes black for about 2 seconds and then closes. I can see the app pops up at the bottom of the screen with the icon of the games main character but that's about it...
Would someone mind giving me advice on what causes the issue? Bear in mind like I said, total novice at this sort of thing.

Hello, according to this post on the GOG forum https://www.gog.com/forum/breath_of_fire_iv/play_breath_of_fire_iv_on_mac the poster says they "using winetricks I added the ffdshow and wmv9vcm libraries." the post also mentions they were using the porting kit. That said you should be able to add the two libraries with winetricks. to find Winetricks click on this setting icon. then click on winetricks in the setting window. Then in the winetricks window start typing the libraries / dll you want to install and then hit install.
By the looks of it gog have updated the game to run in windows 10 & 11 to you might try unticking DXVK in settings or leave it on once you have installed the Libraries / DLL. I don't own the game so I cant test. I hope this helps.
