Is this a good host?
I found this provider that has cheap VPS's
https://datawagon.com/vps
But it's got decent reviews on lowendtalk, but I'm still not sure about its legitimacy, have any of you used it or heard about DataWagon?

They are legitimate, but depending on what exactly you want to do, the CPU might not be suited for Minecraft servers.
The boost clocks of the CPU stated on their website are mostly not achieved in a shared environment. Will probably still be enough for most paper servers with pre-rendered chunks.
I mostly need a cheap host that could handle up to 50 players utilizing purpur, Its just gonna be a basic towny server with as you mentioned a pre-rendered earth map
Players are US based?
Its a bit difficult to say as you don't know how much their nodes are utilized. The Epyc Milans are okay, it could work out just fine for your use case.
If you are on a tight budget look out for VPS Epyc Genoa or Turin Gen, they have a bit better performance and are also server cpus.
If you wanna be on the safe side go with a VPS with Ryzen 9 5950X, 7950X or 9950X
The base clock of Epyc milans is around 2,8GHz depending on the model, so don't be fooled by what they state on their website
they use a 64core* AMD EPYC 7B13 so its base clock is 2,2GHz
and yeah most players are gonna be US/CA
That's one of the slower milans then.
I don't know many US providers unfortunately. The prices of datawagon are good.
I am currently running a Minecraft network on 4 Core Genoa / 16GB / 200GB for 5€ since about a year without any issues, but that's in Frankfurt, so not really in option.
Maybe try it and see if it works out? Worst case would be that you need to migrate after a month.
I personally think you won't have any issues as long the node isn't oversold and the world is pre-rendered. But in the end I can't really say for sure.
Okay!
Keep me updated on how it runs 🙂
okay!
