Hol up just few mins js woke up rn

The vcom comes to rest after first collision so in 1 dumbbell both particles will perform SHM and after 1/2 time period they will collide again and dumbbell will reverse velocities

Did u understand that when the first balls collide ( right ball from left dumbell and vice versa) there velocities will change direction cuz elastic collision?

Okay what does that mean? The whole dumbell is at rest right after collision? So the two particles will kind of execute SHM
right
Now after half a time period of SHM meaning the spring was inutially relaxed, theb it was maximally compressed ( shortest dist bw 2 particles) then it stretches again but this time velocity reverses in direcgion for both particles
As it happens in SHM right?
