If a slot is not loaded it still growing?

What ive seen so far is wheni switched between slots, my egg timer didnt lower at all when i was in the other slot. i am going to check plant growth next. i think whatever slot is selected is what grows/hatches
Update: my plants seem to grow, but eggs/crates will only open when you have that slot selected
