Is there any way to install DH on realms?

I tested it and it works when I manually load the chunks. I'm looking to install the mod to the realm so that it auto-loads the chunks outside my render distance. I'm not sure if this is possible or not. Can someone clarify this? (My friend and I are playing on a realm. We have a nice world on 1.21.8. We are not using any content mods, only mods that improve fps, DH, and shaders. Since we already have a lot in this realm, we don't want to leave it.)

unless realms lets you switch to a neofroge/fabric (or plugin based) server, this isn't possible

Can't I download my world and open it in another server? And if so, which one do you recommend?

To save you some time I'll just put my other question here as well. I'm also trying to optimize my game, and I'm currently using this reddit post. https://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/w6tf0m/how_to_optimise_minecraft/ Do any of these mods or steps mess with DH?

another server provider? yes you can. i'd recommend cloudnord because of good past experiences with them (they sponsored our official smp initially before we went with self-hosting, so note that i'm a bit biased here) personally i use a somewhat minimal instance with fabric as my mod loader, and the mods i alwayts use are sodium (with sodium extra and reese's sodium options), lithium, ferritecore, mod menu (if you prefer neoforge you don't need it), and continuity

Since we are not going to download any big content mods and are just trying to play vanilla with better fps and looks, I thought a realm would be better But if this means DH won't auto-load maybe not

you could generate the world in singleplayer and share dh's sqlite file with your friends. it could grow quite large for a big world though !lodfile

Single Player: - Overworld: .minecraft/saves/WORLD_NAME/data/DistantHorizons.sqlite - Nether: .minecraft/saves/WORLD_NAME/DIM-1/data/DistantHorizons.sqlite - End: .minecraft/saves/WORLD_NAME/DIM1/data/DistantHorizons.sqlite - Custom Dimensions: .minecraft/saves/WORLD_NAME/DIMENSION_FOLDER/data/DistantHorizons.sqlite Multiplayer: - .minecraft/Distant_Horizons_server_data/SERVER_NAME/ Server Mod - Overworld: SERVER_FOLDER/world/data/DistantHorizons.sqlite - Nether: SERVER_FOLDER/world/DIM-1/data/DistantHorizons.sqlite - End: SERVER_FOLDER/world/DIM1/data/DistantHorizons.sqlite - Custom Dimensions: SERVER_FOLDER/world/DIMENSION_FOLDER/data/DistantHorizons.sqlite Server Plugin All dimensions in one file: SERVER_FOLDER/plugins/DHSupport/data.sqlite NOTE: Sometimes there might be 2 additional files next to the main one with extensions .sqlite-wal and .sqlite-shm If there are, all 3 should be treated as a single file, a.k.a. moved, deleted, backed-up always together! If you don't, the database will become corrupted.

from what i remember (it's been about 4 years since i had a realm) , click manage realm, then backups, create a new backup, and download it. you'll be able to join it in singleplayer afterwards you won't get lods automatically with this method, and when people build new stuff you won't see those changes in lods until you travel over, but it will work at the very least

Understandable. I really want to auto-load since we travel and explore a lot, perhaps I should look for a server.

a lot of providers will have 2 threads as their lowest option, wouldn't recommend those. go for at least 4 as dh should have a bit of leg room for worldgen, updating lods, sending lods to clients, etc

So 4-6gb ram right?

4gb should be fine for some light serverside mods

And for someone who has 16gb, how much do you recommend allocating to mc? I currently have 8gb but can go higher

without content mods, even 4gb should perform well. go for 6gb and only increase if memory usage on f3 is constantly above ~80%

Got it thanks
