I like this brand
happy to hear

good
mostly
cool clothes
Their leather bags are some of my favorites I have seen from any designer brand
they kinda age like shit ask me how i know
😔
admittedly the bag i have has been beat to shit and not babied at all so
I don’t have the context or experience following high fashion to blast them or praise them, but it seems like a lot of the shit they get for selling 900 dollar ripped tee isn’t that much worse then every other designer brand selling 900 dollar blank tee
And I like a few of their things
So
Cool brand I guess
Beat to shit in a cool patina way maybe
Or like
Falling apart way
in a should’ve been conditioned more regularly way
jk it’s patina

I think that’s a little bit sick
Also for some reason it seems like balenci bags go for much cheaper secondhand then coach or Prada or whatever, brands I find objectively not aesthetically pleasing most of the time
I don’t know why that is but win win I guess
slightly different reputation
it also just depends - the city moto and cagole bags are still pricy but others not as much h

id actually be interested in hearing why you dislike the brand because so much of your personality here revolves around it
i give you one free pass
I lean into it honestly, because of that one time someone got mad about me posting a video
Cristobel Balenciaga was amazing, Denmas couture stuff was impressive even if its not my thing.
The ready to wear stuff to me is just uninteresting, ironic fashion for me was done better by skate brands decades ago. Just never spoke to me at all.
(If you really want to see me hate something, do a ERD thread)
hey we can agree there
i think like, fair enough, but if you're able to recognize what is good about cristobal's work i dont think demna's is much of a stretch
the really heavily mechandised stuff under balenciaga (read: logo hoodies and shirts) suck, and I dont think id argue with you there
Yeah the runway stuff had loads of bangers at times
ironic fashion, like sure, but i think it kind of undersells what his work does because you have to reference it within high fashion specifically since that's the space it occupies. so saying that skate fashion did it better is like, sure, but it hadn't been brought into high fashion in quite the same way until demna did
a lot of demna's work is deeply sincere! and investigates a lot of what ifs within the world of fashion. on a technical level he's a pretty masterful craftsman
Yeah, and I guess, for me thats a point of departure because I'm always uneasy about 'high fashion/art' being seen as a stamp of approval on something that was ground up
Oh I dont doubt his sincerity, even what it doesnt work for me
this made me look into what ERD is :(
I won't derail balenciaga thread tho
If you buy ERD I'm stealing something from your house
Hopefully you steal whatever I bought
If you think about it in this way its easy to object to, but I don't think its about a "stamp of approval" - the stamp of approval is already there, most of the things Demna appropriates are already a part of mass culture
it is more so about applying a couture sensibility to the garments people actually wear. 3000 hour beaded gowns are not relevant, nobody needs them. People want hoodies and jeans and nylon jackets, and Demna will execute them at a really high level
10 years later people still react so negatively to this idea, but who gaf about X couturier's 100th event gown that will be worn by maybe one celebrity for one night? This isn't what dressing is about anymore
like, Cristobal was one of the greatest couturiers of all time. If he was alive today, producing the same work, it would be completely irrelevant
