Struggling to install
I have been trying to install bazzite on my old laptop and it seems to work fine up until I am required to reboot to finalize the installation. Instead of booting into bazzite I am instead set back to the beginning. Sorry if this has an obvious fix, im brand new to linux.

try turning the laptop off, then unplugging the USB.
Booting will then work if you installed correctly.
It's probably defaulting to the usb stick for some arcane laptop bios reasons
I have tried this, so this means i have installed incorrectly, may I retread what i did here and u can point out where i went wrong
?
absolutely

bare w me
If I were to guess, it was at the disk section of the installer
1.)My laptop is an old DELL inspirion 15 7000, so it has a gtx 1050ti mobile and an intel processor.
2.)I downloaded the iso file using these settings (it lists itself as amd in the file but i could find no way to get intel, if thats what that means).
3.)I flashed the file onto a sandisk 128gb usb (i had to reformat it to fat32(large) )using the attached settings and the DD formatting.
4.)I put the now flashed usb into my laptop and booted into bios, UEFI +safe boot off, and booted through the usb.
5.)i entered the GRUB menu and ran the installer (i also tried the option to troubleshoot and an error popped up (Ill double check what it was after this) but people online said not to worry
6.)I followed the installers instructions choosing the drive to install, creating a user and connecting to wifi
7.)I ran the installation, no errors occured, and once it was done clicked to reboot
8.) Upon rebooting rather than seeing anything linux related im placed in DELLs troubleshoot thingy

and i cant boot into bazzite
bazzite is compatible with secure boot, you can leave that enabled
That all seems fine, but the install fails, so can you try the install again, and maybe send pictures of the steps in the installer? (apart from user/location, those don't matter and you can keep private)
ok give me a moment i need to start from the beginning lol
i wonder if you selected the wrong drive or something
possibly, there is a 256gb and 1tb drive, each time i chose the 256gb
oh
thats probably why
dell is probably detecting the windows install that was cut in half
This is what happens when I run the troubleshoot

It errors at 4.8%
And a checkisomd error happens
it says the iso is not supported
hm
i wonder if something is wrong with rufus
potentially, what is a good alternative and ill give that a go

i can't find another way of getting the windows version
is this like rufus
to flash a usb
i dont want to accidentally wipe my main system lol
yes
my wifi is so slow it might take me until 2030 to get my games bck
oh is that why you only want to install to 1 drive
oh no idc about anything on this laptop
i want to try out bazzite before my main system
sorry i didnt make that clear
btw don't be suprised if fedora media writer takes a long time
especially on such a large disk
ok im here

select .iso file
and then choose the bazzite iso
ok

that looks like your disk
usb disk
123gb
so you are good
ty

and amd64 doesn't mean it's for amd btw
oh what does it mean
amd64 is the name for x86_64
the instruction set
thats confusing lol
it's what amd and intel use
but it's modern version created by amd
so amd64 stuff is for intel/amd, which intel licenses
arm64 is for arm stuff
ahhhhhhhh
and there's RISC-V

should be good to plug it in and try from the beginning
ill do another troubleshoot to see if the error is persistent
now my usb isnt recognized in the bios
hm
can you reset the bios to default settings
hang on
Turned it off and on

I assume this means it’s found the usb
yes
run test this media
if it was having an error before
WE ARE PASSED 4.8%
WOHOOO
fingers crossed it doesnt get stuck at 48%
ok its finsihed
and is starting installer
probably not

i want to use the sata since it will be faster
shall i give it another go
yeah
you could do some fancier stuff to not have to deal with 2 seperate drives after install
but that's probably beyond the scope of your first ever install
100%
ill look into it if i click w bazzite

Wait let me retake so u don’t hurt ur neck

is that bazzite one of my failed prior attempts or is it my current attempt
and waht should i delete
failed previous attempt
wipe all
ty
ok installing
fingers crossed
whilst we wait can i ask you a question? When an iso is installing is it connecting to a server or unpackaging compressed files like a zipped file
uh
normally i would say it's connecting
but considering the size of the bazzite iso it probably contains everything locally
ty was curious since the download time has been quite constant on each attempt
and while we wait
if you end up going down the rabbit hole
don't install arch, try making your own custom image of bazzite
it's significantly cooler
and also a lot more stable
ty i really hope i enjoy bazzite cause moving to windows 11 has been frustration after frustration for me
last thing: bazzite is a bit special with how it installs packages
so if you ever want to install something, prioritize bazaar (the software store) or type in ujust in the terminal, which will show you tons of scripts the bazzite guys made so you don't really have to use the terminal
that will be nice to start off with ty

aha found it
and if you break something, bazzite is atomic. That means that you can rollback the entire pc 1 update
it's in the grub menu
ok will it auto make a rollback save when i first boot
no
you only have 1 state on original install
Ok I pressed reboot and this popped up

stays on that?
Oh just went away
it may just require a wait
It’s booting
it takes a little while
you'll have an ugly blue menu
at one point

click enroll mok
with keyboard
Ok

the password is
universalblue
i think you press continue?I can’t type in the box

I tried typing it anyway

it hides it for security reasons
it's normal
Ah ok
reboot
and this has activated secure boot supporrt
so you can re-enable it in bios normally
Brilliant

Looking good
It’s worked
Tysm ur amazing

mark the question as solved
Ofc
Have a lovely night
