Driver updates are comepletly normal
easiest way to put this:
Your pc/laptop have a wifi card in the mother board
Every part has its own drivers
Drivers can be said to be like systems the part uses
What he told you to download is the system for your wifi card because its probably old/outdated so updating the driver/system may fix ur problem
