RR loss

So me and my sage are the same rank, Gold 1, I was in plat/gold lobbies and i was 4th on the leaderboard and my sage was very last. Can someone explain how i lost 22 and my sage lost 18 even tho they were very bottom and i was 4th and we are the exact same rank? What is this RR system???
