Steam play compatibility

When ever i go to steam>settings>compatibility and set default to proton-ge latest or any for that matter, it doesn't do anything, unless i enable checkbox each one individually and select proton otherwise it doesn't work. is there no way to automatically run each game in compatibility mode?

For windows game or linux game? Proton should be the default for windows game

These are games for windows, non steam game just manually imported but doesn't do anything when i press play, unless i individually select compatibility, not to mention it resets after restarting

For non steam games, steam will have no idea it is not native if you don't force proton. So you'll need to manually enable proton for non steam games. For the universal setting in steam itself, choose a version of proton shipped by steam ie. Experimental iirc that setting does not support external proton

I see, its more for convenience playing older games or retro stuff, lutris have to manually set everything so just prefer to use add to steam right click
