journalctl -b 1
will show you logs from the last boot. Scroll down to the bottom (you can use the end key on your keyboard). Those should be the last events before you forced the reboot due to the freeze. See if anything there tells you what's wrong (or give it to an LLM)

@asheriif these are the right one my friend?
No. Do
journalctl -b 1 > journal.log
then copy the contents of the file journal.log to pastebin or something and paste the link herethis command : journalctl -b 1 > journal.log all together?
Yes. This will redirect the full output to a file called jjournal.log in the same directory
Then open this file, copy the full log, and paste it somewhere online
how do i find this file?
in what folder?
Thanks for the help bud, and sorry ... didnt want to bother you π
In the same directory where you run this command
So if you just open the terminal and run it, it should be your home directory
Paste it to pastebin (and mark it as private)
ok...now?
Put the link here
all of it? all the lines?
No no no. When you paste the lines in pastebin you get a link
The link of the page

no link created for the page O_o
journalctl -b -1 | fpaste
this does not contain the error
journalctl -b -2 | fpaste
wait can you show me what journalctl --list-boots
shows?
might make it easierbazzite@bazzite:~$ journalctl --list-boots

need this one
okay kwin crashed
do you have any overclock or undervolt?
or both
not that i am aware of...i didnt change anything.... whats the best way to check/fix this my friend?
if you don't have LACT
then no
if you do, you need to check the application
dont have it... but i am installing it now, so i can tell you what i see π

tell me if you need anything more
no didn't need LACT
i just wanted to know if you had any overclock or undervolt
can you show
rpm-ostree status
State: idle

how often does this happen?
i was using cachyos before (3-4 times a week) with bazzite, first time today, after 2 weeks
with mint, never
is this after waking from sleep?
oh wait no i see this was just after booting
what AMD GPU do you have by the way?
it doesn't seem to be kwin, it's just the amd gpu driver crashing
randomly
no... i was using my pc normally... then screen froze, i was not able to move anything... the screen was stuck, so i had to reboot my pc....one thing that is strange is Every now and then, when I wake up my screen or when I start my PC, the screen is like blurred... you only see a distorted color on the whole screen.... I have to turn the screen off and on again, and the image goes back to normal
Your gpu is constantly crashing
this could be a hardware issue or kernel-related issue
what GPU do you have?
7900 xt amd
if it also happens with cachyos then i dont think this is something we can solve here
why never happened on mint? this is weird...
could be a kernel issue
with your specific card
it could also be a hardware fault
aka a broken gpu
if you have no overclock
but, only started when i was using cachyos.... not with windows or with mint.... so if it is a kernel problem, what will be potentially the solution?
another distro?
or windows?
there's one thing you could try
but it will lead to increased power usage
bad for my pc, or bad for my bills? π
rpm-ostree kargs --append-if-missing=amdgpu.gfxoff=0
this disables a power saving featurewill damage my pc, or only more electricity?
more electricity
ok... gonna try this one then
but @CheckYourFax if its an issue with the kernel, the only solution will be?
change distro? or go back to windows?
hope it will be fixed in the future
maybe 6.16
its a gamble
clear
thanks for the help my friend
really really appreciate it π
its simple: if its a kernel issue, you won't be the only one with the issue, and it will eventually be reported and fixed
Fax, in your opinion, Mint is so bad in gaming performances, compared to bazzite or cachyos?
nah
the differences are all little
very little
bazzite is just fundamentally different in the fact its atomic
will this change stick on every reboot?
yes
you can check what the kargs by running
rpm-ostree kargs
hgb quiet root=UUID=1d374487-8ece-4203-80c6-125afd9cce61 rootflags=subvol=root rw ostree=/ostree/boot.0/default/3a3d842a7a106ce7ad1c317cb40d68972486de45989b13fe9f9490edae293ea1/0 bluetooth.disable_ertm=1 preempt=full amdgpu.gfxoff=0
yep
looks good
now pray it will temporarily fix your issue
can't be sure
if i will run with this change always on, should be fine right, apart from electricity comsumption, right?
yes
one last.... with this option, the gpu will not get grilled righr? or "hot as fuck" mode... π
no
GFXOFF is a feature found in most recent GPUs that saves power at runtime. The cardβs RLC (RunList Controller) firmware powers off the gfx engine dynamically when there is no workload on gfx or compute pipes. GFXOFF is on by default on supported GPUs.
its just a feature that disables the gpu engine when not in use@CheckYourFax all seems good after your suggestion mate... fibgers crossed!!! π
