Non-boot leather shoes
Hey folks. I’m looking at getting a pair of new pair shoes that aren’t boots, but I’m still wanting them to be leather (or a similar material - open to suggestions but not vegan leather). Aside from that, I’m open to and would greatly appreciate suggestions as this isn’t something I’ve particularly explored before. I’m generally looking for something in the Ivy/Prep space but not necessarily a traditional oxford, looking for something with a subtle flare/something a bit different about them. Generally prefer brown shoes.
I’ve had a look around at some options and particularly like the Solovair Gibsons in greasy brown, and the equivalent Doc Martin model. Loafers are something I’ve considered but have tried a good few on and simply don’t like wearing them all that much. Might be that I’ve not found the right one but they don’t particularly interest me at any rate. I’m also not too big on boat shoes or brogues.
I’ve attached images of both outfits I’ve worn of late I’d wear them with and the solovair shoes I liked. Annoyingly I don’t really have specific inspo pics but if I find any I’ll add them. Budget would be sub-£200 and I’m open to buying new and used (though if used would be looking exclusively from places which allow no-fault returns). Unfortunately I’ve not gotten my brannock size done but I’m a 10.5 in converse, 9.5 in ariat boots and 8 in bean boots (though sized down for both, significantly for the latter). Would say I’m roughly a UK10.

a bit out of budget but
yknow
paraboot michaels
200gbp used is doable actually
More affordable alternative (and my personal preference) are Kleman Padrors
i have paraboot derbies and heschung derbies that are good too
Other good shoes in that niche are Timberland 3 Eye Lugs, something like a Paraboot Chambord/Kleman Frodan, Red Wing Postmans ($$$)
The timbs are technically almost a boat shoe but yknow
There’s other moccasin options as well, like Ranger Mocs
But I also think you’re a shoo-in (haha) for a pair of Tyroleans like the Paraboot Michael or the Kleman Padror
Ooh thank you both. I’ll have a look at them. I’d probably be more likely to go for the Kleman’s as I’m looking to stay in budget (for once) but will keep my eye out for used paraboots too
Klemans are good for the price. They’re not as nice of course but they make for a great everyday shoes.
They’re very comfortable too, I walked like 10k steps right out the box with them without issue
sebago lug soles
Seconding chambords, I think those would be perfect for your style
I’m a fellow boat shoe hater and I mostly like timberland 3 eye lugs fwiw
Feels like a really different shoe culturally haha
i fw the timberland 3 eye lugs…
They’re great, I love mine
perhaps i should..
But I also like my boat shoes so my opinion may not matter lol
May be able to find a used trickers daniel within budget which could also be sweet
trickers good
Of the suggestions thus far, I’m not a huge fan of the timberlands, quite like the Padror/Paraboot and really like the Frodan/Chambord. I think I’m definitely leaning towards derbies/adjacent
Yeah that makes sense to me I was gonna say I don’t really feel like timbs go with your style necessarily
Of those my vote would be chambord or similar, feel like that would look great with a lot of your fits!
Thank you all for the advice - will do some digging on these and let it stew for a little bit. Ofc if anyone else has recommendations I’d love to hear them
You can also reliably find secondhand Yuketen shoes for around/under your budget
for example - https://www.marrkt.com/collections/yuketen
Marrkt
Yuketen
Yuketen may have only began in 1985 - relatively late in comparison to their colleagues in the footwear space - but they've already became household names for their boots, due in no small part to the quality and attention to detail that goes into the creating of every pair. Careful consideration goes into the selection
a few different examples there (you can probably find more on ebay etc)
@Soup best me to it. Yuketen mocs for sure.
My Chambords cost me £150 in a sale not that long ago.
Could you wear a 9 narrow
Wait never mind, I think I just remembered you're a size 43
no sad
Doc or Solovair Derbies + Tyrolean style shoes like Kleman
Doc martens have an official secondhand store on depop fyi
I own a pair of Pellet Macho and they're ok. Sizing was a bit weird on them
Had to size up by +0.5 as too tight
