Import images uploaded after backup was taken
I had to restore from a backup taken a week ago. The restore went great and I have Immich back up and running with photos showing from a week ago and older.
However, I was expecting all the photos to show, since I have Immich set to upload to a NAS, which was not wiped, so all the photos are still there.
Is it possible to get Immich to rescan the uploads folder to include all the photos? Even if the current profile has no idea they were uploaded?

Information
In order to be able to effectively help you, we need you to provide clear information to show what the problem is. The exact details needed vary per case, but here is a list of things to consider:
- Your docker-compose.yml and .env files.
- Logs from all the containers and their status (see above).
- All the troubleshooting steps you've tried so far.
- Any recent changes you've made to Immich or your system.
- Details about your system (both software/OS and hardware).
- Details about your storage (filesystems, type of disks, output of commands like fdisk -l and df -h).
- The version of the Immich server, mobile app, and other relevant pieces.
- Any other information that you think might be relevant.
Please paste files and logs with proper code formatting, and especially avoid blurry screenshots.

Sorry if I wasn't being clear. Images older than 1 week (that was included when I took my backup) are showing. Anything newer is not
I believe the newer photos should be there too, since they are stored on a NAS, which was never touched.
I had the docker-compose.yml file from before and reconstructed everything based on that. These are my storage locations FYI:
UPLOAD_LOCATION=/mnt/photosNfs/upload
THUMB_LOCATION=./library/thumbs
ENCODED_VIDEO_LOCATION=/mnt/photosNfs/encoded-video
PROFILE_LOCATION=./library/profile
BACKUP_LOCATION=./library/backups
Anything on /mnt/photosNfs wasn't touched. Anything local was wiped and rebuilt
There is no "scan" for the upload folder I'm afraid
Hmm okay, unfortunate. We still have the two phones that have been uploading the images from the last week. Can we mark the photos for re-upload in the Android client?
They were initially uploaded using the automatic backup
You can't, it's a bit of a painful situation
I believe best bet would be to clear data for the app and re-process everthing, assuming you don't have crazy amounts of assets on the phone?
It's a few thousand photos and videos I would guess. But there is also some older stuff not currently on our phones, so I would hate to lose that
I thought you said the older stuff was uploaded?
Maybe I misunderstood. I thought you were suggesting to clear the Immich data.
Are you suggesting to clear the data of the Immich app on the phones?
Yes π
Only the phones, and not the pictures, just the app
It will try to upload everything, but duplicates will be rejected
Okay, that would probably work well. Any duplicates would be caught by Immich I would guess. That's a pretty neat idea.
Okay cool, time to figure out how to do that in the app then! Thanks a bunch
SImply uninstall and wipe all app data
And then just log in again
Okay thank you so much
Ah shoot. I didn't realize the photos aren't actually showing. But this is probably a question for a different post.
Basically, I see each photo as an option to click on (no thumbnails though but I figured that was due to not generating them), but the photos also don't load when I click on them

ah uhh π
If you download them, what happens?
Weirdly enough Videos seem to load. Very confusing.
Downloading an image gets me a JPG file that opens without issue
Seems like the thumbs are the issue then
I'll try to hit the ALL button on the Generate Thumbnails job
Did you recover the thumbs folder?
If not, yes that's what you need to do π
No I didn't back that one up since I figured I could just regenerate them haha. I just thought the photos would still open, even without thumbnails
THey do actually
We just show thumbs in a lot more places than you think
It's a bit misleading because the 'big' thumbs are 1440p
Ah okay so big thumbs are probably what it's trying to open when I click the image?
Yep
And then when you zoom I think it will cut over to the actual image
Which would also explain why videos are working, since they don't have a big thumb?
Yep
Very cool, I learned something new today! Other than needing a better backup strategy LOL
nah you're doing fine, even managed a restore
I appreciate the kind words! I'll report back in a few hours if the thumbnail thing worked π Thank you so much
Alright, found a few images that now has Thumbnails and they load as expected. Thank you again! I will let the job run, and then reinstall the app on our phones to re-upload everything.
Would it have been possible to identify the βlastβ uploaded asset from db, identify all assets younger than that date on the nas, move them out (as they arenβt referenced in the db anyway) and just reupload them?
That would have been the workflow i would have thought of first.
Yes but that's potentially a lot of manual work
