HHD Max TDP on MSI Claw A8

The max TDP on the Claw A8 is limited to 30W, even when I uncheck the system TDP limits setting in HHD. Any way to change that?

I feel like this shouldn't be the case, I need to check it

Thanks, appreciate it. By the way, is there any way to limit the CPU clock in Bazzite besides turning turbo off and EPP? The A8 runs extremely hot when the CPU gets above 4 Ghz. Using EPP only helps when there is GPU load, but if there is not enough GPU load, all the remaining power seems to go to the CPU and it clocks up to 5 Ghz no matter the EPP setting.

So what you're saying is that the CPU toggle don't work

The turbo toggle? That works but 2 Ghz is often too low and with turbo 5 Ghz is too high. On Windows I would ideally set it to 3.2 - 3.5 Ghz. Any way to do that with Bazzite?

It's a problem that hasn't come up before Simpledeckytdp might be able to I also might tweak the boost setting to be more granular

Simpledecky unfortunately only offers GPU clock limits Either an A8 and/or Z2E issue. The cooling in the A8 is pretty underwhelming and the Z2E seems to run pretty hot, especially the CPU I managed to limit the max CPU clock using cpupower! By the way, using SimpledeckyTDP i was able to get TDPs > 30W until I updated the newest Bazzite release on testing. Now TDP controls in Simpledecky don't work anymore at all and the 30W in HHD is the max limit currently Weird behaviour

Hhd will override the CPU clocks as you change settings Also hhd is using msi tdp controls So it's limited by whatever msi set + the kernel driver Although I want to say 37 should be the limit...

I am playing around with HHD right now and the CPU clock limit seems to be stable On Windows it is 35W for the A8. Is HHD differentiating between 8 AI+ and A8? Because for the 8 AI+ it is 30W and HHD is currently maxed out at 30W

No problem, happens. I appreciate your work very much By the way, I would not mind 40W instead of the 35W 😄 What are the 2nd and 3rd values in the ()? "quiet": (28, 45, 55),

Is performance the Sport profile in HHD?

Yes and it's completely wrong Because I quickly did the numbers before I went on holodays

I was wondering why the values were so close to each other. I am mostly using custom anyway By the way, the manual fan settings need to be re-toggled every time after waking the device up. Is that a bug?

Yes, on the ai 8 they don't need to I will rework the kernel driver once I'm back and fix the values

Thank you very much! Hey @antheas, any idea why I can't set custom TDP values below 25W?

in beta there is a potential fix

I did the update and unfortunately not. When setting any TDP 17W for example, the CPU turbo boosts and then settles at 20W. Also now the back buttons no longer open up HHD/Keyboard. 😅 I really feel bad for constantly bothering you. What would be a better way to give feedback to the Bazzite team? Create a ticket on Github?

Moving forward, the paddles will not work by default If you want to reenable them, tick dinput mode under controller settings The way it used to work was quirky and caused issues with dual boot

Thanks, good to know.
