Steam games NOT launching at all no matter the proton version
I just installed bazzite as I'm over windows and want to try Linux. I'm completely new and I think I got everything working but no game on steam launches at all. How do I fix this??

NTFS is not supported, install games and dependencies (proton, steam linuc runtime) to a linux filesystem
I can't since I'm dual booting with windows also
Surely there's a way to play games on Linux while dual booting
Otherwise what's the point
WinBTRFS
It will do for a game drive
It is finicky on the Windows side though
I have a Ntfs drive with 3 different partitions. One with windows, one for bazzite and the other with some games and important files
Idk what that is since I'm completely new to this
NTFS is a Windows file system, it's not meant to be used in other systems
I only want to use windows for video editing and games where Linux just won't work like fortnite
The NTFS support in Linux barely works, it's more so meant for convenience, not for day to day use
Is there anything I can do to game on Linux without sacrificing any drives?
I want to start using Linux and learning it but I don't want to wipe everything
Dual booting from the same drive also isn't recommended, Windows Update might nuke your bootloader
Well I don't have any empty drives
I'd recommend setting up a dedicated drive for Linux

I followed this guide
How can he game then
With an NTFS drive
Makes no sense
Also apparently helldivers 2 works on Ubuntu with an NTFS drive also
Don't run games from an NTFS partition, it's really not a working recipe
Well I can't thoigh
Everything I'm saying is in the Bazzite docs
im not wiping everything if i cant dual boot
i dont want to wipe everything just to run linux
as i also use windows
Your best bet is segregated drives
Or backup and wipe
all my drives are NTFS formatted due to me using windows also
i have a lot of games installed
and i have no drives to use to back up
i guess ill try a different distro because my friend is on ubutu and can play his games while also dual booting
It's a Proton issue, not a distro one
Since you insisted I'm linking this, I didn't initially because if you use ntfs any ticket you file will be closed.

Compatibility tool for Steam Play based on Wine and additional components - ValveSoftware/Proton
I tried this and it doesn't work
Guess I'm trying a different distro
You will need extra setup on any distro
Check compatdata folder on your steam library
I did the commands
No game on steam launches
If bazzite just refuses to work for NTFS, I'll just try a different OS, since I know my friend can play games with dual booting
And he's on Ubuntu
You will need extra setup on any distro
If I can get it working, I'll see
Bazzite just doesn't work for me
Even when I did the commands
Open your file manager, go to ~/.local/share/steam/steamapps and windows drive/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps.
Delete the compatdata folder in the windows drive, create a symlink from Linux compatdata to Windows
Ah same as the other guy, check this thread. (easiest fix last post)

Good luck, fellow Helldiver.
I tried that
Nothing worked
I have 2 different drives. How does compdata work with both of them
I'm so confused
Idk if I mounted correctly also
This is how I mounted my drives

Compatdata will not work if it's on ntfs however steam may ignore compatdata on ntfs and use the one on root drive
But I have 2 drives I want to use
I'm so lost now
I tried a different OS And still getting the same issue
uid=1000,gid=1000,rw,user,exec,umask=000
Change defaults
with the aboveI tried that earlier and still nothing
let's try what I did on my pc: unmount your drive, create file
/etc/udisks2/mount_options.conf
and put in this:
then reboot, unmount again, mount from your file manager (not terminal)What does this do?
Changes the behavior of user space disk manager. When you mount a drive from file manager, the file manager calls udisks instead of mount.
Ok well now only one drive is appearing on steam library
When I mount it

i dont get this
steam will not autodetect libraries if they are not available on steam start. add them back
wdym
i mounted it
add library folders from steam's settings again
i did
did i mount correctly btw?
you just click them from file manager, that is all it takes to mount. if they were mounted already, unmount then click from file manager
gtg now, a bit busy atm
i tried that and get an error
all good

I don't know how to create a symlink with compdata properly
