Valorant crashing on startup (Vanguard)
So I basically ran through every possible thing i could do to make valorant not crash and eventually i got to the conclusion that vanguard (vgc) is running before i start valorant but after the crash it's stopped. meaning that vanguard must be being blocked by something.
Any ideas? I uninstalled my antivirus so it's just windows defender but i don't know what else could be stopping it. Tpm is active and safe mode boot plus other bios options should all be correct

Windows 11?
Does it crash with any error code?
Windows 10
No. I checked some thing and every time it crashes there's a thing saying bad_module_info stops working
In perfmon /rel
Chatgpt said that means it should be something not kernel but I did everything it said and none worked
Ok, so you launch the game, loading screen pops up, and then just closes ?
About 10 seconds yeah
And vgc closes afterward
Ok try this:
Press windows key
Search “msconfig”
And open “System Configuration”
Head to “Services” tab
Check “Hide all Microsoft services”
And then “Disable all”
And find “vgc” and enable that only
Open “Task Manager”
Then head to “Startup Apps”
And disable all
Then enable all riot related
Then restart your pc
Tried multiple times but I'll do it again
Do that and only launch Val
Brw I'm in secure mode and tpm 2.0 is active etc
Same again
Again in reliability monitor it says bad_module_info stopped working at time of crash
Vgc stopped as well
Check event viewer
some of us having same issue but the pc straight up freezes like 30 secs into val
Application logs or system
I couldn't find anything interesting unless you want me to look for something soecific
I've looked multiple times
Just look for errors at the time of the crash
Try again and see if there’s any matching errors
I don't think it would be an issue with the specific latest gpu driver because this was the reason I last quit val 6 months ago
Here's some errors I found
The gameinput service terminated with this error
The compound file gameinput service was produced with a newer version of storage
The gameinput service was terminated unexpectedly
Faulting application name badmoduleinfo
Blah blah blah
Faulting process Id 0x344
Damn, there’s no way of knowing what’s causing it
I also get warnings before the errors saying certificate for local system with thumbprint I'd about to or already expired
It should’ve specified the app instead of badmodule
Hang on let me just try again to make sure it's all the right errors for that specifically
Ok so in application
Error;
Faulting process Id 0x217c
(Essentially faulting badmoduleinfo again)
Info;
Fault bucket type 5
Event name bex64
And it gave me some attached temp files from windows/wer/temp/werb(numbers)
Nothing new in system
is it only in val ?
Yeah I've never had a problem like this
And of course vgc closes after the crash so I presume its to do with vanguard
alr @junimo can you take look when you got time . ty :val_Hampter:
Usually the best way to go about this would be to reinstall windows
I’ve had seen 1 similar case before, badmodule kept crashing valo, reinstalling windows fixed it
Same issue occurred 6-7 months ago when I last had it. I'm 95% sure it was exactly the same issue as now
wait for junimo maybe she will look into it and help . drop your riot id here
How would I go about doing that
Riot I'd is : GalactikHex #2742
To reiterate I'm extremely certain this same issue happened to me 6-7 months ago and I just deleted val then
alr just wait now . she gonna tell you best thing to do to reset windows or something eles
Alright thanks
Thanks for help

Do I have to get windows 11 or can I stay on 10?
Steps are the same, just google windows 10 download
Would I be OK trying to keep my files first and if it doesn't work I go from there? I'd rather not mess about with moving important files everywhere if possible and if a simple reinstall of windows could fix it first?
Sure you can, but I doubt it would fix.
No harm in trying tho.

^ this doesn’t require a usb
Directly from the windows
Yeah I think I'd want to try this first before messing with usbs and that I've basically never used them
this is expected, vanguard service doesn't run without the game running
would completing a full factory reset do the same thing as your original suggestion? As in would it properly reinstall windows as well?
Alright I read up and apparently not because the reset is the older version. But valorant did used to work on my laptop it just stopped working at some point but I guess doing the USB one I presume is still the better option
I tried a windows reinstall with the media file installer btw and that didn't change anything
