It's great opportunity for you to start with c++, once you know the basics you should start right away on learning and solving DSA problems and actually give competitive programming a try as it will build the problem solving skills you need and also you very much need it in every job interview nowadays

c++ java and c++ are amazing languages, but, c++ is used in a lot more places both can be used for desktop programs, games, backend and many more things by the way, dont forget to check the job market around you

Another vote for C(++ I guess :p). Not a fan of Java. But it really depends on what you want to do. But if you're not sure, C++ is going to be better in the long run for you, IMO.

If you are interested in web development side of software engineering Java is probably a better fit. I know where I work we have a hard time finding good Java developers. I am just a front-end dev so I don't know which language is better and what for. I did try and learn a bit of Java but I got bored with learning the basics syntax stuff. Knowing at least one proper language would certainly make me a better developer lol. JavaScript is loosey goosey.

it's not a lot different from c++ but it's easier and a ton more of null exceptions
