If you have a route for `*.example.com/*

If you have a route for *.example.com/* then yea it's going to capture traffic on backend too, unless you make a route for backend.example.com/*, Worker: None under the Workers Routes tab of your website/zone to exclude it

or test in a non-prod environment first lol/setup staging to play with that error is usually from your ssl/tls setting under ssl/tls -> overview of your website/zone settings, being "Flexible". It needs to be Full (Strict), you can click Configure -> Custom ssl/tls -> Full (Strict)
