Automatic sync directly from iCloud
Hi there, i was wondering if there's an utility to sync media directly from icloud without "passing by" the app, something server side/site side which allows the user to log in on iCloud and automatically sync the media uploaded on iCloud so that it's not necessary to do it from the phone

icloudPD might be your best shot, using external libraries in Immich
Kind of, it's been a few months since the app has automatically uploaded medias on the background, so I want to catch up on the media that hasn't been uploaded in the meantime, however i still want to use the phone, and not leave it unlocked with the foreground backup going
Do you have that many photos? You could use the beta timeline which allows parallel upload, so it should be fast (if you're on your local network, or have relatively fast internet)
7k
main problem is having the storage full on the iphone, as i noticed that the sync gets stuck very often after uploading a few medias
So i figured syncing stuff from icloud directly would be less of a hassle phone wise
oh yeah, your assets are on icloud not on the phone
(I suppose) so it has to dowload them to upload them
yep
Well you can try IcloudPD on your computer so you can dowload all your photos from Icloud, then upload them on Immich with immich-go
I'm not sure how it would work on the app side though, as it will still need to get the hash of the photos to check if it need to update them
Mh ok, one last thing, has the background sync improved at all (as in media syncing without opening the app at all)?
It never really worked for me
I had kind of abandoned the app ever since v 1.127 or so since it wasnt working and just updated to 1.132
I know they are working on it with the beta timeline
It is now handled by the OS, so it should be better
ewven thought i doubt it's server side stuff
For now, it can't put your photos in the queue without opening the app
So you have to open it from time to time, this ways in create the asset queue,
Then this asset queue is "given" to the OS so it manages the upload
Ok thanks for the infos
You should try it (after updating to the latest on both server and app side)
It can be disabled easily
no idea how to switch to the beta timeline tho, i'll look into it
app and server should be updated
yes for the beta timeline to work properly both should be on the same version
And for it to show, the server has to have it supported
inside your immich app -> profile pic -> settings -> 1st option
Ah ok thnaks
Btw i suppose syncing stuff directly from icloud would have the same effect as syncing it from another phone with the same icloud acc
Which is what i did in the first place to sync 30k photos/videos
I thinks i'll go with this route again
Yes, I suppose
"same effect" wdym?
Rehashing all the photos on the main device and sadly not displaying the correct count of media (overall), since it only counts the photos/videos uploaded from that device
but faster than doing it all on the main phone
Your phone would still have to dowload every photos to hash them, it just won't upload them If I understand correctly how it is supposed to work
There is a plan to fix that, but it's not yet implemented
it might hash them directly from icloud, i havent had to wait that much at all to start syncing on the main phone
Maybe it hashes from the "light photo"
I'm not a an Immich dev so I don't exactly know how it works, sorry
might be
anyways thanks a lot for the help
No problem!
