Bazzite stuck on "starting installer, one moment..." screen
Hi, I was trying to install bazzite with 2 usb drives, I flashed the iso into one drive and after many problems I managed to pass the MD5 check before installing as well...
But everytime I try to install I get stuck in the "starting installer, one moment..." screen, all that anaconda stuff. Problem is I don't know if and how to check for errors/log files during that screen, it is not freezed 'cause I can type stuff even if nothing happens with it. I know the photo is bad quality, but I think it's clear what screen I am talking about, any help to address and fix this problem will be appreciated!

Reflashed the iso with fedora and skipped the check right before installing, and.... I get stuck at this exact same screen as well
Is there way to open and check errors/logs of this?
How should I understand what is wrong with it otherwise?
better screen view.

hmm
:p
yeah trying figure why the installer graphic doesn't start or whatever is happening here
have you tried using the low graohics mode or whatever it's called?
how I'd access/switch to that?
there's a menu before this
they suggested me trying the live iso instead
it's somewhere in there
yeah install
Test and install
Troubleshoot
those 3 options
guessing it's in troubleshoot
I wanna still access a log or errors during that screen tho
so we can clearly know what is being faulty and 'cause the installer stuck problem
I'll try with journalctl -b after that other iso finishes download
are you by chance using an NVIDIA GPU if yes probably that
mh yes but I got the right "iso" for it
or so I thought
that's the iso selected for my laptop and gpu

yeah but NVIDIA Iis still NVIDIA it has problems
heh... should that be fixed then?
it's NVIDIA problem or the installer ISO could be updated to avoid that problem if we report it correctly?
maybe both the old installed kinda sucks
& NVIDIA kinda sucks
but there is a new installer in the works
it should get updated, I should try make a suggestion and a post about this on github
oh
that's nice then, could probably fix alot of problems
did my suggestion work?
I can't try yet
waiting for the live iso to finishing be downloaded
you're probably good with the live iso i seen to recall that having the newer installer
i feel sure about it as well, I'll still try debug the other one first tho
I am sure it will be helpful for someone else
Tried the live iso
If I click on install to drive or executing liveinst on the terminal they both quickly open and close a window
And from terminal after a while I get completely black screen..
I don't understand what is the problem with bazzite and my computer
Are there minimum requirements somewhere?
I'll try with another laptop tomorrow but this is getting weird and full of problems which can't even be tracked down..
It seems whatever I do or try that's the problem I am facing everytime
With your suggestion I get stuck here as well..

ah dang still
Yeah idk
The absence of errors doesn't help either
Really getting triggered about this..
not really silent just doesn't show them on that screen
you are currently in a thingy called temux
which allows you to have multiple "windows"/"panes " in the same terminal
the logs are in a different Window
i know this because it's shown in the screenshot & this installer failed on me before
so i did mess with it
I see
So what should I do/try?
well i've seen things like this
with a different distro
debian 12 XFCE the desktop wouldn't start
i just had to manually start it
might work for you
first you'd need to switch windows to the shell
you first hit ctrl+b
to make tmux listen for keybindings
& after letting go of those just hit w
this'll show a list of windows
one of them is the shell
where you can actually run commands
windows is likely called bash or just shell
you use the arrow keys to select the window
With another laptop it just works lol

Might be the actual USB 3.0 port that my other laptop didn't have?
i know that the Steam OS recovery requires a fast connection/drive to install from i'm guessing fedora is less demanding
Idk
I am not sure what problem my other laptop has other than this
How could I figure it out?
not sure you could try my idea
going to the shell
killing the current installer with
pkill anaconda
& starting a new one with anaconda
this shouldl give more startup information
& also might outright just start the installer properlySo Ctrl+b
Then w while the installer is stuck?
ctrl+b at the screen where you get stuck yes
& then w
And then killing and restarting anaconda
from the shell window yes
pkill anaconda
to kill it
& anaconda
to start it again
might need suco before both of these commands
might not
i don't recall exactlyI'll try with and without
Good tips tho
this is the tmux window list

Damn on that other laptop I am stuck at Deploy starting thing
what you get when you control+b w
if there's no error it's fine

It's a long step?
Hopefully
yeah that's ok
it's running the deploy command to actually install the distro but due to the command being simple it can't tell it's progress
but it can tell if it failed/completed successfully
so you just wait patiently
it's like 95% of the installation process
after this it installs a few extra apps
but this is most of the installation
I see
Makes sense
I'll let it cook for hours
shouldn't take hours but will take a while
It finished and I am in!!
Now my problem is that steam isn't opening
And even the terminal gives me an error
on Linux or Steam isn't installed like anything else as in to the system
instead the Linux Steam package is just an installer
I think it just needed more time to load the OS lol
it installs Steam the first time you run it
that usb drive is really slow
it had no internet to do so
xD
but I launched the steam thing from desktop and waited alot
everything opened now
yeah this does need internet
the initial problem was the terminal gave me error
and steam never opened
distros can't legally ship Steam as part of the distro but it's totally fine to ship the installer
So i installed this on my 32gb usb drive
I basically only got steam working and downloaded a 2.5gb game from there
But I am already running out of space, only 1 gb free left
What could i remove that will free alot of space and that I didn't need so far?
yeah bazzite really isn't meant for so little space
each OS update is essentially a new OS so takes more space than usual
mhhh
is there something I could get rid of?
