Sleep not working on MSI Claw A8 (Z2e)

Hi, currently I'm having a problem with sleep function in Bazzite. Controller and touch screen will stop working when waking up from sleep, and no RGB light/LED indicator either. The only way to get to Bazzite again is to hard reset by holding down the power button for 20s. I've updated the Controller firmware and BIOS to latest version from MSI (not sure if that's the culprit) before switching to Bazzite latest (stable-20250817). I'd be happy to provide logs or any debugging info to aid developers on this issue. Any help is appreciated! (Small update: This post is not related to the older post: https://discordapp.com/channels/1072614816579063828/1401184247364063333/1401184247364063333. Sleep might still be working, but controller failed to start again after waking up from sleep. The new controller firmware just got released on August 14th and I've updated to that firmware version - 3.11. Since I've just got the device, I do not have the mean to test on older firmware...)
Solution:
ok um... sleep actually works now and able to wake up again. I have to go to windows and rollback to controller firmware 3.08 (and also disable fast startup from windows and do a full reboot).

same here, updated 3.11 firmware and bios as latest one, disabled secure boot/fast boot both but it doent help to fixing this issue, not sure if this is related with firmware, test branch also same

Yup I tested on the testing branch last night too, build 20250824.3 I believe, the issue still persists. 80% sure it's the new controller firmware that's causing the problem now

maybe we can re-install Windows image to rollback the firmware, last time i remember that once reimage, firmware need to be updated

Do you have the old firmware setup file though? I've just purchased my Claw A8 yesterday and immediately updated the controller firmware lol

nope i dont have but maybe you can install windows and reinstall center m then firmware update will pop-up

I doubt that, since the controller firmware is already updated and embedded in the system, reinstalling Windows won't reinstall the controller firmware back to the old version Or maybe it's the BIOS issue?

if you have windows, trying to uninstall center m then reinstall, firmware update will pop up not sure why, if this related with os?? not ec?

Hmmm, I won't have access to my A8 for 8 more hours (in work). If you have the capacity, can you try reinstalling windows and use center m to see whether the controller firmware reverts back to 3.08? I'll raise an issue on github later today for visibility as well

i can confirm that controller firmware need to be updated after reinstalling center m, but how can i verify current firmware version?

FuzelessOP7d ago
I guess need to go into control center m and take a look at the current bios/controller firmware version That's the way I think of, at least

FuzelessOP7d ago
Oh, I have the controller firmware 3.08 right here. Can you try installing it in windows and do a test?

sleep mode works as usual, i've not installed your firmware but just passed update from center m meaning should be 3.08 not 3.11

sleep mode works as usual
Did you mean sleep mode works on Bazzite or Windows, with firmware 3.08?

radiojin7d ago
wait, new bios just released now

FuzelessOP7d ago
Lol that was fast. Can you try updating the bios then see if the sleep issue is fixed on Bazzite? I have the old bios (103) stored here, just in case you need to rollback Lol the new BIOS allows us to change the VRAM size for A8. That's nice

Thanks for the response! Let us know if you need any logging/debugging information! I can provide for you update: tested with testing-20250825.5, hhd 3.19.6, seems like sleep is still having the same issue, even though the controller is in xinput mode Hi @antheas (sorry for tagging again...), can we continue the sleep conversation in this thread to avoid cluttering? I might have some news to share

so, I fresh installed and dualbooted both bazzite and windows, and updated bios to the latest v.104 I also disabled fast startup in windows also then I rebooted to bazzite and tried to sleep, still it doesn't work, but now when I press the power button to wake up, nothing happens. no controls/screen/anything i have to hard-reset and booted back to windows, and even then the controls, touchscreen do not work (except for power button, volume keys and the QAM/MSI key up front) but interestingly, i tried sleeping in windows by pressing the power button, and when I press it again to wake the device up, all the controls started working again rebooted to bazzite and controls are functioning properly now sleep is basically functioning properly in bazzite, but i can't wake the device up. looks like the EC state is not waking up properly? here's the latest log though, doubt it's helpful https://paste.centos.org/view/7870ffdd

looks like so for the A8 i rolled back to firmware 3.08 on windows, put the device to sleep on windows first then wake it up turn off windows fast startup, do a full shutdown and boot back to bazzite sleep works again after than i wiped my windows partition and install only bazzite, sleep still works correctly Oh I do have to mention... I did remove my sdcard this time
