Lithium - Expansion Mod: Feedback

There has been a while since Lithium has hit version 1.0.0, and I feel like it is time to gather user feedback for the next update with potential changes to mod's progression and balancing. Primarily I'd like to know about these things: - Have you finished a playthrough with extra Space Elevator parts enabled? - What are the main aspects you like about the mod (authenticity, new alternate recipes, balancing, utilities provided by the mod like Jetpack Mk.2 or new drone fuels, etc) - What are the aspects you don't like about the mod? - What would be the main highlight of the mod which makes it a must have if there is one? - What is the weakest aspect of the mod? If you were responsible for the mod's content, what would you change/add/remove?

Since we are here, I'm obligated to write a review myself. I have been trying to complete the game with new parts, but on Tier 8 things didn't go as well as I planned. While new additions have been exciting to work with at tiers 6 and 7, the remaining ones have turned out to be underwhelming. Which seems to only be natural due to the fact that these tiers bring most utilities and alternate recipes. And space elevator parts were... Not so fun to make. Versatile Accumulators are intended to be equivalents of nuclear pasta, yet they don't bring any interesting challenge alongside (it's just a complex part which uses two lithium-based ingredients, and that's it), so my quick solution to their production was just manually making them with help of slooping. And as you may guess, I didn't finish phase 5 for that exact reason - new parts are boring. Besides, there is no real reason to lean into producing lithium if new phase parts aren't enabled, except for a number of alternate recipes. While mod feels natural towards vanilla game, it seems be too separated from it, not resulting in anything useful beyond cheaper alternates. Perhaps there could be more extra utilities or something which would benefit in producing original phase 4/5 parts. To me tier 8 is the weakest aspect of the mod, especially Versatile Accumulators, I would rework their production completely

I mean, my general feeling has been that it doesn't feel very, integrated, ya know? Yeah there's a few alternates to ease the strain on some production lines, but you get them so late that unless youre already rebuilding a good chunk of production, its just not worth the effort to integrate them The jetpack mk2 is nice, but honestly a hover pack mk2 would be better. It's easy to just kinda forget about the jetpack unless youre exploring, which isn't something you do a lot of after you unlock phase 5, since you can start making shards, and often already have all the spheres ya need And theres not much of a reason to make the new parts besides, as stated, the jetpack and the new elevator parts. They're amazing parts, dont get me wrong, but theyre kinda dulled by the realization that I cant really use them for anything but making other parts, to make yet more parts Maybe there could be a special rechargeable drone variant that's built using versatile accumulators, to help show how powerful they are Or bigger capacity trains that use lightweight frames to go faster and carry more Maybe lithium batteries could give access to rechargeable trucks, helping to ease oil usage in the later game Even a special buggy mk2, using lightweight frames and lithium batteries to make a speed demon of an explorer, perfect for burning off steam when pioneers get bored Or to get sillier, a deluxe factory cart that's faster and lighter and completely uncontrollable on anything that isn't a foundation Ooh, maybe a xeno crasher, using lithium batteries to deliver a shock strong enough to deal with even the strongest in just a few swings

I see, these are good ideas worth exploration More equipment refresh and rechargeable drones, specifically drones, could work Light trains too I will leave vehicles to Muppet

I was just thinking reading this thread that I could tie in my mk3 vehicles with lithium batteries if you’d be open to that

I'd be happy to I'm not going to actually work on changes until winter at minimum but I'm only glad to have my mod be used as dependency or even just as optional synergy No new items or schematics will be added, so that specifically is a stable ground Idk if it involves trains, but the idea of lightweight trains/freight cars has been proposed
Muppet Burrito
That all sounds perfect! We’ve got a good little team now put together at the labs to work on this together as I realized very quickly I wanted to do too much to do on my own in any reasonable timeframe lol Land transport will be the second phase of the mod but new lightweight trains are planned, as well as SF style big rig trucks, so I think using lithium batteries as a dependency would be perfect And with the air transport, too. With larger Scorpion choppers meet skycranes, the lithium batteries would be perfect!

Lightweight modular frames too btw

Perfect! I grabbed lithium mod ages ago to play through it but haven’t had much chance to play at all since then, but I’ll boot up my test save and have a look through the rest of the mod properly to see if there’s anything else from there that would make sense to use for the vehicles as well!

If yall can get fluid trucks working, I feel like this mod would gain a lot of popularity, as well as giving an immense amount of use to trucks
Muppet Burrito
That’s the plan, to get fluid trucks working, and make the mk3 trucks hybrids with fuel & lithium batteries so they’re closer to life

Oooh, that's a real neat idea Though I believe there are some real life full electric semis, due to their size allowing for extremely large batteries
Muppet Burrito
Ooh you’re right and that gives me an idea, we could make multiple options, have full fuel mk1 & 2 trucks unlocked when vanilla trucks are, then when lithium batteries are unlocked we could also unlock electric truck options, both hybrid and full electric Full fuel will be cheaper to build but have a higher fuel cost, full electric more expensive to build but much lower ongoing fuel cost as they’ll only require electrical charging, and hybrids will be somewhere in the middle

What about, hybrid and full fuel have higher capacity than electric, with their theoretical build costs unchanged, whereas full electric has lower cargo capacity to make up for not needing anything but power Thus it'd be better to use full ev when you have shorter routes feeding into hubs, whereas fuel and hybrids can handle the longer routes between hubs and production
Muppet Burrito
Yeah I was going to toy with values of things like that to give each their advantages and disadvantages to allow people to strategise with them Think it also makes sense to have the build cost somewhat different however, they’ll be mostly the same, however full fuel trucks won’t require lithium batteries to construct, and the hybrids will need less of them than the full electric

Well, the hybrids could also use more computers and the ev even more, due to the systems needed for the batteries and other needed systems

I don't know how exactly vehicles are going to be implemented in future and if they are going to utilize Truck Stations or their new versions, but I'm also reworking Truck Stations Plus so that instead of Powered Truck Station there will now be a Truck Charger which snaps to FGDockingStation's fuel input connection and provides station with power, I just let know that I'm doing it for sake of compatibility with other mods
