Hi,

Love the software!! I'm an Immich supporter (paid the $$) for the program.
My daughter recently uploaded a handful of images to her account. She selected the images (maybe 10) and changed the date on the images. Unfortunately, Immich changed the date on ALL of her images (like 400 images) Is there a way to revert the changes she made?

Revert to an older backup :P

I also think it's likely that she selected all, this would be a somewhat concerning bug but I have never heard of it happening. Sorry to hear

Hi @Daniel , Excellent!! Can you point me to the documentation where I can revert to an older backup
Daniel
Daniel•2mo ago
Oh wait you're saying it also changed the dates on your account? Yeah that's impossible That depends on how your backup solution looks like. Not an Immich issue :P

No, not my account :-). Just on her account. All the photos @Daniel , Thanks for pointing out the backup solution. That worked!! I referenced the following docs: https://immich.app/docs/administration/backup-and-restore Also, I spoke with my daughter and she outlined the steps that caused her initial problem. They were as follows on a Mac 1. open Immich in Chrome 2. open Mac finder and navigate to her photos 3. drag and drop her photos into Immich 4. the photos were uploaded but not all of them had the correct date. so, she selected the ones with the incorrect date and changed the date. This is when she noticed that ALL of the dates for each photo were changed to 2001-01-01 Thought I would share that with you, in the event this is a bug

Thanks for pointing out the backup solution. That worked!! I referenced the following docs:
What backup tool are you using?

It's using the built-in backup tool. Is that what you are referring to? The one outlined at https://immich.app/docs/administration/backup-and-restore

That only does a DB dump That is not a complete backup

correct. The DB dump is all that was needed in this case. I have a daily cron job that backs up all of the data
Daniel
Daniel•2mo ago
Ok, so the answer to this question is "daily cron job" What is that cron job doing?

backing up the immich data

More precisely lol. What does it use? Restic? Rsync? cp? ...?

Sorry, I do not have access to the server at this time. I'm using a friends computer, and I don't recall what program I'm using. So, I can't answer that question

I see. We generally recommend restic or borg, if you want to read more:

So when people say "x is not a backup tool" what they are actually saying is "you probably don't actually want a single point in time copy of your data", which is what that tool is doing. And that "backup tools" exist today that: - can run on a schedule - only copy new/changed data (incremental) keep track of changes over time in the backup, with the option to restore to a previous version This gives you the ability to recover a file that was deleted some time ago, restore to a point prior to data corruption, etc., all while being space efficient (similar blocks are deduplicated) Popular backup tools are restic and borg.

Thanks!! 😀 I don't think I'm using either of those. I will have a look at your suggestions and compare them to my solution. Always good to have options
