Bug / Missing Feature : Batch Update Metadata in Album View
Hey. I noticed when you are in the regular timeline view in the web application and have multiple images selected, that you can go to the three dots in the top right and select "refresh metadata" to update all changes done to the metadata of these images. I would expect the same behaviour when you are viewing an album, but somehow the option to refresh the metadata does not exist in this view.
I dont know if this is supposed to be that way, but i am missing it.
I am manually changing a couple of fields in the images to make them more usable etc. I do this album by album, so if i want to refresh the images i would want to select the changes images or all images in one album and use the refresh button. But instead i have to either find and select all these images in the regular timeline, which would be quite inconvenient, if the images are in different years, or i have to refresh all metadata using the jobs in the settings.
Is this meant to be like this, or could you implement this feature in an upcoming release?
Thanks in advance! I love this project π

Information
In order to be able to effectively help you, we need you to provide clear information to show what the problem is. The exact details needed vary per case, but here is a list of things to consider:
- Your docker-compose.yml and .env files.
- Logs from all the containers and their status (see above).
- All the troubleshooting steps you've tried so far.
- Any recent changes you've made to Immich or your system.
- Details about your system (both software/OS and hardware).
- Details about your storage (filesystems, type of disks, output of commands like fdisk -l
and df -h
).
- The version of the Immich server, mobile app, and other relevant pieces.
- Any other information that you think might be relevant.
Please paste files and logs with proper code formatting, and especially avoid blurry screenshots.
Without the right information we can't work out what the problem is. Help us help you ;)

Just validating, you aren't directly modifying any files in the upload location correct?
Kind of yes, kind of no.. Its a bit difficult. I am editing the GPS Coordinates in Immich itself. This creates an xmp sidecar file. I do want to embed these Information in some of the pictures, so they dont need the sidecar files anymore. I created a python script that does this for me, without losing any exif data. Another thing i do is rotate some pictures after they are already uploaded, because immich sadly does not have this feature. To make these changes appear in the timeline or in general. I use the feature to "refresh metadata". The button for this only exists in the timeline tho. I thought it should be in the album view aswell
Yes, this is my request in the github repo
Just know modifying the file directly in the file system is unsupported and may cause odd behavior. Certain assumptions are made that file data doesn't change
I am fully aware. If i break something that would be bad, but i can reset to a savepoint thanks to regular backups. The things i do with the files shouldnt really cause any trouble. Just image rotation and some exif data additions. The refresh was kind of meant for things like this, atleast somewhat...
We explicitly do not support editing files in the internal library in any way since we track the checksum. The refresh is designed for debugging, stuck jobs, or external library
But as you said if you know the risk thatβs fine
Didnt really know that.. But till this point it hasnt caused any issues. Is this also the reason why the button only exists in the timeline view?
Hasn't been implemented elsewhere. That's probably really it
Isnt planned aswell, right?
No idea, anything is possible but probably not a high priority currently
Understandable π
As always, PR's are always welcome π
I love the project, keep it up π
Do you know if there is an app planned for Tizen OS or Android TVs?
I haven't heard anything at this point. I wouldn't have any hopes for quite a while
Makes sense, its probably a very low amount of people that are interested in this anyway
Big thanks to you for helping me so quick π Ill close this now
