My immich is not working properly. Is a reinstall a viable option?
So i updated my immich a few weeks ago, and it broke. Whenever i try to connect to it, the connection refuses.
I have no idea, where the error is coming from.
Immich runs on my synology in a container. Before i updated, i copied the entire container to a seperate drive.
Can i just uninstall immich and reinstall, put the files back and restore the sql backup? Or wont that work?
Let me know if you are missing any information, any help is appreciated 🙂

AKA The port mapping was changed away from 3001 in Oct of 2024. So coming up on a year ago
Yes, seems reasonable. Didnt update for a while because i dindt really know how
You would need to go through every breaking change between your old version and the latest, and apply them to upgrade
but i dont even know if my current install is working. For me it seems like its broken. Can i check that somehow?
If you updated your immich a few weeks ago and didn't apply any of those breakign changes, yes it's expected to probably be pretty broken
okay. what is my best option? Can i reinstall and restore the database?
You have two options. A) Restore the database into the version you had before you tried to update and things started breaking. Then from there, go through the breaking changes and apply those as you update. Taking backups as you go for the best possibility of success.
B) Just blow away the old db, pull latest, and re-upload via the cli.
Thanks, i will consider that
If i go with option B), is it best to just uninstall immich? Or could i just pull the newest version?
If option B then: Set a new location for the postgres folder and upload location in your env file. Pull the latest, and start it. THen just use the cli or immich-go pointed at your old upload location to upload the media
