Error loading image

Immich Server v1.142.1 I've been running immich for year or more with very minor issues at worst. I added 2 external libraries 2 days ago. One is 248k photos, 2100 videos and 1TB of data, the other is 112k photos and 436GB of data. Since the scan completed, I'm getting a lot of pictures with an "error loading image" message instead of the picture, both in the "Photos" timeline and in the "Explore" - "People" listing. I figured that my poor server (AMD A10 CPU, poor thing...) was just seriously overloaded processing all those new images, but it's been 48 hours so far and it still is displaying that. It's not just newly added images, either. Pictures that I took (and uploaded) on my phone a week ago had thumbnails, but now they don't. It's random, though, for example the 2 oldest pics from 11 Sept have thumbs as does the newest from the 10th, but most of the rest of the images from those 2 days are showing the error message. Several days ago, they all had thumbs. Is this a bug of some sort, or have I just totally overwhelmed my poor CPU and it's just struggling to keep up (it has been pinned at 100% utilization since the addition)?

 Hey @Free Man, Thanks for reaching out to us. Please carefully read this message and follow the recommended actions. This will help us be more effective in our support effort and leave more time for building Immich :immich:. The exact details needed vary per case, but here is a list of things to consider: - Your docker-compose.yml and .env files. - Logs from all the containers and their status (see above). - All the troubleshooting steps you've tried so far. - Any recent changes you've made to Immich or your system. - Details about your system (both software/OS and hardware). - Details about your storage (filesystems, type of disks, output of commands like fdisk -l and df -h). - The version of the Immich server, mobile app, and other relevant pieces. - Any other information that you think might be relevant. Please paste files and logs with proper code formatting, and especially avoid blurry screenshots. Without the right information we can't work out what the problem is. It took me many day for a lot less files than you have. What I did to fix the problem was to change the share from samba to nfs and to move my server from wifi to a cable connection. You can also check in settings if you can decrease some of the quality settings. Besides that, I recomment asking chatgpt for an estimate given your library size and hardware used.

Also check Administration > Jobs to see how fast it processes waiting jobs and if there are failed jobs. Check/descrease job concurrency in Administration > Settings to reduce cpu load.

That's fair enough. It is odd that some of the thumbs that existed for pictures that were visible last week are now showing as broken. I've turned concurrency down (reduced each setting by one, some by two). This is an old machine, and replacement is somewhere on the horizon, but not this week. 🙁 I ended up deleting the 2 massive libraries. I've added one small subset back in , this one with 1750 images, 33 ivdeos and only 7GB of data. Processing it still has my poor old CPU pinned, but the vast majority of thumbnails of my recent pics are back (some recents, like for the last 2 days are still missing), but I'd imagine that it'll process through this chunk reasonably quickly. It looks like I can expand an external library, so I'll just grow it by small bites so my hardware can live with it.
