External Library or Upload photos

Hi everyone, I had a quick question. I want to use Immich to manage my photos. Amazing application I must say, many props to Alex and the other for developing it. However, I am usure how I should or what is recommeded way of using it. I have, just as probably many others, a big folder of many years of photos. Most of them in camera roll folder uploaded from my phone(iOS) and some photos sorted in albums in folders. But I am unsure if to add it as an external library or just dump all my photos into it (maybe using Immich-go). For the external library you have to rescan it everytime it changes, which I think is not ideal. And for uploading the photos, I want to keep the albums I have right now. What did you guys do? Any suggestions are welcome. Thank you!

For the external library you have to rescan it everytime it changes, which I think is not ideal.
It can rescan on schedule. Rescans are quite fast and lightweight, so running it frequently shouldn't be an issue. My Immich is configured to run it every 15 minutes. https://immich.app/docs/features/libraries/#set-custom-scan-interval (see other parts of the doc as well if you haven't seen it yet)

@Cing2 I have a similar scenario to you. Personally I prefer to keep my libraries external. It means I can access and edit the assets with 3rd party apps like image management and editors and then just resume the results with Immich. Also I am getting assets from multiple sources: mobile,SLR,GoPro and then scans from old Kodachrome slides and prints. So the auto-upload features of the app are of less value. I already use PhotoSync to get the assets on my NAS. Plus having all assets on the NAS with disk mirroring and a weekly backup to and external drive is a comfort. Immich is the tool I had been looking for to bring all my photos and videos under one roof.
