Proposal to Add a `String.width` Utility for Calculating Visible Width

I'm currently faced with a situation where I need to find the visible width of a string in the terminal (quite the rabbit-hole if you're interested [thread)] and the recommended solution has been to use something like string-width to calculate the generally accepted width. While I have nothing against Sindre and the awesome work he's done on this package, i'm finding myself recently thinking a lot about e18e and supply-chain attacks (3 in the last week ). Maybe this isn't something everyone would find a good use-case for, but certainly it would find use within the existing ecosystem of

. Would there be interest for this to be added as well as the moral discussion on whether open-source solutions like
