Firefox won't open

New Linux user here, installed Bazzite on my laptop yesterday to free myself from Windows 11. It's pretty great but Firefox and Librewolf wont run. Firefox gives me a crash report while Librewolf just loads for a moment and then doesn't open. Solutions I've tried: - uninstalling/reinstalling the Firefox flatpak - disabling Wayland windowing system/enabling fallback to X11 windowing system - Opening Firefox flatpak from the terminal - per reddit suggestion: running 'sudo dnf install libcanberra-gtk3' in the terminal I'm really at a loss for what to do so any help would be appreciated. Attached are the relevant screenshots.

oh and this is the output when I click 'Details' on the Firefox Crash Reporter:
nagito || Knight of Emilia
maybe delete the flatpak data uninstalling firefox doesn't do that automatically

how do I do that?
nagito || Knight of Emilia
remove ~/.var/app/org.mozilla.firefox

You can do it in the Warehouse app

under the 'leftover data' tab I assume?
nagito || Knight of Emilia
it's such a cool little app

I trashed it, now do I just reinstall firefox and hope it works?
Josephine
JosephineOP9h ago
still not working

weird that I've managed to play balatro on here before being able to open the preinstalled browser lmao is it possible it's some kind of hardware issue? this laptop is pretty lousy
nagito || Knight of Emilia
probably not i got another idea installing firefox from flathub
Josephine
JosephineOP9h ago
oh thats where I just installed it from
Josephine
JosephineOP9h ago
flathub, in the bazaar right?
nagito || Knight of Emilia
i know fedora has it's own flatpak repo oh wait you're on bazzite my brain glitched been using fedora kinoite
Josephine
JosephineOP9h ago
ah lol
nagito || Knight of Emilia
which comes with only the fedora flatpak repo by default & fedora's own flatpaks ain't the best
Josephine
JosephineOP9h ago
oof
nagito || Knight of Emilia
imma install flathub firefox & see if it works yeah works for me let's make 100% sure you are using flathub firefox uninstall the one you got & run this in the terminal flatpak install flathub org.mozilla.firefox

will do same crash pop-up
nagito || Knight of Emilia
hmm yeah this narrows it down you are using the exact same firefox version as i am as well as all the exact same libraries that firefox depends on
Josephine
JosephineOP9h ago
also this is just a firefox issue (and librewolf but I mean that makes sense as its a fork of firefox). Chrome and Opera work just fine but I'd really rather not use a chromium browser
nagito || Knight of Emilia
there is one thing i can think of which interacts with flatpaks from the host system & that thing is the input method search for virtual keyboard in the launcher & make sure that's set to none is for me
Josephine
JosephineOP9h ago
it was set to maliit so I just turned it to none same crash
nagito || Knight of Emilia
interesting
Josephine
JosephineOP9h ago
could this be whats causing the issue?

nagito || Knight of Emilia

Josephine
JosephineOP9h ago
hmm
nagito || Knight of Emilia
but i can check on my end
Josephine
JosephineOP9h ago
thatd be great
nagito || Knight of Emilia
yeah that error is normal i get it too
Josephine
JosephineOP9h ago

what is colorreload-gtk-module?
Josephine
JosephineOP8h ago
Not sure! Someone on reddit suggested I run 'sudo dnf install libcanberra-gtk3' in the terminal which ended up giving me the same firefox crash reporter pop-up it didnt change anything at all either
nagito || Knight of Emilia
hmm next idea what if you make a new user & run firefox from there does it still crash i wonder
Josephine
JosephineOP8h ago
yep
nagito || Knight of Emilia
i'm forced to conclude it's something hardware related at this point still have some ideas though
Josephine
JosephineOP8h ago
I'm greatful for any ideas u got
giacomo
giacomo8h ago
i think it has something to do with colorreload-gtk-module, and maybe your theme?
Josephine
JosephineOP8h ago
I tried changing my theme before and it didnt help unfortunately. That said let me go back to the alt user I just made and see if the output is different at all in the terminal seeing as the alt user is still on the default theme
giacomo
giacomo8h ago
ooh, good point
Josephine
JosephineOP8h ago
so I think the gtk error is related to the theme as it wasnt present in the output there. However the rest of the output was identical and there was still the same crash
nagito || Knight of Emilia
i'm currently booted into Nix OS & flatpak firefox works though i have fedora kinoite dualbooted that also works imma go reboot into fedora & see if i get the gtk error
Josephine
JosephineOP8h ago
just tried changing my theme to one of the defaults on my main user and it still gives me the gtk error
nagito || Knight of Emilia
hi from fedora land
Josephine
JosephineOP8h ago
hello!
nagito || Knight of Emilia
installing the firefox flatpak as apparently kinoite has it installed as a system package oh wow the flatpak works with even less warnings on kinoite
nagito || Knight of Emilia
just this one which is expected
Josephine
JosephineOP8h ago
thats what happens when I try to run librewolf on this laptop just that one and no crash reporter either, it kinda just doesnt open
nagito || Knight of Emilia
i got a real silly idea now what if you were to temporarily rebase to kinoite
Josephine
JosephineOP8h ago
That's getting into the territory of stuff I really don't know how to do I'm brand new to linux literally installed yesterday I appreciate all the help y'all but this is getting to a point where its too much to try getting firefox to work on a single pretty awful laptop so I think I'm gonna call it there
nagito || Knight of Emilia
ok one last very simple thing to try install system package firefox sudo rpm-ostree install firefox might need to reboot to have it take effect @antheas i'm being kinda annoying but this is extraordinary flatpak firefox simply won't launch for OP even on a different user well the browser won't crash reporter will i suspect it's hardware somehow but i've used some real garbage hardware & never had this happen also affects librewolf
