Free Tier: all-inclusive or possible hidden costs?
Free Tier: all-inclusive or possible hidden costs?
Hi! I’m building a small MVP (front: Loveable, back: Supabase) and I’m new to infra/billing. I’m on the Supabase Free Tier and I want to avoid any billing surprises
My questions:
1. All-inclusive? Does the Supabase plan (free, in my case) cover all costs for the services I use (Postgres, Auth, Storage, Edge Functions, bandwidth/egress, etc.), or could some items incur additional charges?
2. External cloud fees (AWS/GCP, etc.)? Since Supabase runs on cloud infra, can I, as a user, ever be billed directlyby AWS/GCP (or other providers) even if I’m on Supabase’s free plan?
3. What’s notincluded? Are there common components not covered by Supabase that can cost money (e.g., email sending, SMS for OTP/2FA, OAuth providers, CDN, storage egress, cron/jobs, outbound webhooks, quota overages, etc.)?
4. Overage behavior If I exceed a free quota (DB requests, storage, bandwidth, function executions, etc.), what happens in practice: blocking, throttling, or charging?
5. Prevention What settings/best practices do you recommend to avoid surprise bills(usage alerts, project limits, precise monitoring, dashboards to watch, parameters to lock down, etc.)?
Thanks in advance for any guidance and real-world experiences!
Supabase gives you the tools, documentation, and community that makes managing databases, authentication, and backend infrastructure a lot less overwhelming.
