is it just the pic or does the black have a noticeable honeycomb

I don't wear leggings, but my closet has slowly been invaded by Ridge wool undershirts for winter layering. I imagine the quality remains high for their leggings as they are for their tops

No specific brand recs unless you want running specific brands. I lied below are two tri/cycling thermal leggings brands that offer a mix of material choices. General rec is buy fleece lined or gore tex those were great for 10ks in NY winters. Any leggings that meet either of those two criteria will likely meet your requirements. I bought an excellent pair almost a decade ago from under armor but their quality has declined. Also, fair warning, your shorts are gonna ride up if your legs rub together with some thermal materials Edit: if you've got some give on material types I liked the 2xu and sugoi tights and are less likely to ride up

I like my Icebreaker merino leggings. Also consider Point6 merino leggings due to the lifetime warranty, though I only have experience with their socks.

thanks for all the recs so far - i should specifiy that I'm looking for plain black, as close to 0 branding externally as possible the point6 ones look perfect but of course out of stock in my size lol

Check your local Sierra store, they usually stock some merino base layers and socks for reasonable prices.

I like Janji tights for winter, it's not thermal as in fleece lined or anything like that though.

the ones I have don't have a honeycomb but it definitely looks like the current model on their website does.
