I use a MacBook Air M2 with 8gb of memory how much should I allocate to my Minecraft instance for Distant Horizons?

8 GB of RAM is a very low amount these days
You can try allocating 4 - 6 GB and check which gives you the best performance
Make sure to set CPU load to Minimal in DH settings
Close all other programs running on your PC
And install the most popular performance mods to reduce the RAM usage
The most important will be FerriteCore
ModernFix, Krypton and Lithium might also help a bit
Normally 8 GB is the minimum amount you would allocate to MC alone, leaving another 8 to the OS and other stuff
allocate 10 gb, since apple claims 8 GB = 16 GB /j
i feel like 90% of these macbooks will be made unusable very quickly purely because of the small and non-upgradable ram size
