Polyethylene in clothing
My viscose pants I bought are 20% polyethylene- so like, PE, the basic plastic from water bottles etc
I’ve never seen it in clothes I think? I was wondering why it’s not more common, knowing it’s the most produced type of plastics!
Have you seen instances of PE on material composition tags?
Just curious, thanks!

outside of ppe/hazmats idts :xd:
i swear there was a campaign a while ago about shredding water bottles as insulation for recycling clothing but idk if that went anywhere
Yeah I think I saw that too for fleece
it's weird
They feel great too lol
very fluid pants
like light drapey
yeah i think it was for patagonia lmfao
wondering if they couldve messed up the tag and it was polyester idk :xd:
the pants are like mid 2000s from the italian brand Malloni

Plastic Wars: Industry Spent Millions Selling Recycling — To Sell...
An investigation from NPR and the PBS show Frontline found oil and gas companies had serious doubts that plastic recycling was viable, but promoted it to keep profits high and plastic bans at bay.
no doubt some brands tried to use it for greenwashing gimmicks
yeah might be
interesting
reading about it, if it's PE ironing them would melt them :xd:
what if melting them on purpose looked really cool
margiela cum shoe (2018)
Idk about in clothes but I honestly like the recycled PE material for like bags and stuff
sometimes they just put it to be specific, its part of the polyester family so its just more common to see it labeled as polyester
but polyester is PET while according to the tag this would be PE which has different properties
maybe they wanted to write polyethylene terephtalate (PET, polyester) and wrote it wrong yeah that's what would make more sense
It's probably a legal thing in some jurisdictions
polyethylene is a polyester even if its not PET
That’s something I always want to say to ppl who reject anything with polyester, it’s a very broad category
That makes sense yeah ty
