hmm in the solution the path is apparently elliptical shouldnt it be a straight line ?

This will be added to their stats.If the satellite is suddenly stopped and theres no initial tangential velocity then yea it will travel in straight line, but to get time u would have to solve a massive integration which is time consuming so u can instead consider it as an ellipse but with its semi minor axis tending to 0 (straight line) which is much shorter
