Yeah, since we don't (can't!) expose the password hashes, that's pretty much game over as I understand it

Unless you can make samba work with LLDAP? I'm not even sure that would be enough

Note that LLDAP doesn't even try to be a full Active Directory server. There might be lots of missing functionality there.
