SSL Error when accessing R2 resource on iOS
Some of our users with iOS clients only (no one on Android) are reporting a problem accessing files on R2, to which our domain is connected. The users started getting an SSL trust error on iOS on 1 October 2025 right after the edge certificate for our R2 custom domain was automatically reissued.
We can locally reproduce a very similar failure if we set the iOS device time manually (not “Set Automatically”) and skew the clock slightly. With a small clock skew Safari/URLSession fails for https://avatars.wak.ie with NSURLErrorDomain -1202, and switching “Set Automatically” back on immediately resolves it.
However, we cannot yet confirm the exact root cause on affected users’ devices. We suspect sensitivity to fresh issuance and stapled OCSP/SCT timestamps right after Oct 1 (based on our OpenSSL dump), but would appreciate Cloudflare’s confirmation or guidance.
