Bazzite & Intel Arc B580 GPU
Hi everyone,
I recently decided to turn Windows my back and wanted to give Linux a go and saw the Gaming Distro Bazzite, which would have worked perfectly for my purposes.
I bought new hardware for a complete new gaming pc - and decided on a Asrock Challenger Intel Arc B580. Since I noticed that Bazzite does support Intel Arc GPUs, I did not really thought there will be a problem. Furthermore I read so many positive things about Linux and gaming in general and a lot of positive reviews about Bazzite. So, I thought this will work smoothly.
But.....
For the last days, I tried to make this setup run together. But it doesn't - and I dont know why.
The Bazzite installation went easy. But when Bazzite boots, I always end up in a black screen. Bazzite is only loading "properly" by adding nomodeset in the linux code line at the start of choosing which ostree setup. And there I can see that my Arc B580 is getting recognised by Bazzite, but it will not actively run the recent update for my GPU - I guess...?!
I am not 100% sure what is actually happening, but I tried to force Bazzite to upgrade to the newest Version and I guess in the end it worked (I saw something like "driver=xe" or similar.
But as soon as I want to boot Bazzite without "nomodeset" the boot gets stuck in the loading-window of Bazzite. So the question basically is:
Is the combination of Bazzite and my GPU possible? If yes: how? If no: why? Because in the ISO drop down menu it says, that Intel Arc GPUs are supported.
Thanks everyone for any help in advance!
Best
Sebbi

Do you have resizeable bar enabled in bios and is bios set to uefi mode?
UEFI is active. Mainboard is an ASUS TUF GAMING A620M-PLUS WIFI - if that helps.
resizeable bar is completely new to me, so I guess it is not enabled, if not by default. Will check later....
But if I read correctly this "only" enables more speed/performance for CPU/GPU, right?! Could this have an impact?
Thanks!
for Intel ARC it's basically a requirement for them to function correctly
All right, thanks! That might be a gamechanger info... Will report, if it's working with that
OK, as I said: UEFI is active and resizeable bar was already enabled (I guess by default, I did not change that).
Any more ideas? Thanks!
I mean: Arc GPUs are supported, dont they?!
yea they are, i've seen other people use them in Bazzite, but none seem to have as severe issues as you

Are you able to get to a terminal session and run some commands?
With nomodeset I am able to get to the terminal. I think I am able to run some valid requests.
But I am not sure what to look at or what commands to run to see what is actually wrong - since I am completely new to Linux.
can you assist with commands and what to look at?
unfortunately not sorry, you'll need to wait for someone with more knowledge of the terminal :crying:
ok, no worries! π
however i have another idea, you could boot into a live iso of any distro and install OCCT, it's free and/or on Steam, (CachyOS live iso has OCCT preinstalled :cachyos: )and stress test your GPU, perhaps hardware is at fault here somehow
if the hardware is brand new like you're saying and has never been tested before for functionality. that's certainly not a bad idea imo
then run a 3D Adaptive stress test for at least 1 hour or so on the GPU
you can also run a combined test if you want to test everything
