Shoes for a basic person?

I'm not an overly stylish or fashionable person. Just trying to work out what shoes will be the most versatile for everyday casual use, sometimes a little smart. I live in Australia.

I mostly just wear olive/caramel/tan chinos (long and short), solid color t-shirts, and some kind of overshirt/jacket. I'm not a jeans person for comfort reasons.

The two main recommendations I see are white sneakers and brown boots.

I am completely lost for boots. There are so many varieties It's very hard to know what will work.
I lean towards suede because I don't like how shiny the smooth leather seems to look in images online, but is that actually a problem?
Do I want lots of laces, desert boot style laces, no laces? What difference will it make?
Dark brown, light brown, tan?
Budget around $250USD

For sneakers I hate logos etc. Just want something minimal that will work with shorts. I'm also not sold on white, they fell too bright and easy to dirty to me but I'll trust it.
Stan smith are recommended a lot but they're hard to buy where I am. Vans authentics seem decent, dislike the logo though (however minimal).
My budget for these would be around $100USD but I'm somewhat flexible.

Or hell, can I just get brown shoes that will work with shorts and long pants? I travel lightly a lot, it would be nice if I only needed one pair.

I'm picky for someone that just wants basics, sorry about that. I'm just a bit lost in all the options and this far outside my comfort zone.
