Fitting textures (corduroy.)

So as of late I've been trying to try out new textures. Spent some time at my local winners:

I found this G H. Bass corduroy chore/overshirt. First in a small, second in a medium. (Bonus down hoodie pic, an earlier fit too).

I got the small one but it doesn't "feel right". The closest I've gotten to the problem is that it's too "slim cut". Boxier, workwear leaning fits make me feel more comfortable. Then I realized I'm attempting to do two things without really knowing what to do:

  1. Incorporating "fun" textures...
  2. ...in multi layer fits
Imo all the ones I've linked, I completely bricked. The combinations I come up with are trying to do too much I think. There's some sort of substance id say: I can wear the pieces no problem in "safer" fits but when I try them all together they clash. I have a bad sense for styling multiple pieces and I'd like to take steps to address this.

I've been trying to do corduroy for the longest time but I can't wrap my head around it. Specifically, do I want an overshirt? A chore coat? What introduces texture harmoniously to make it all look part of the "same outfit".

Any and all thoughts/alternative pièces to hunt are welcome. This I think would be a great place to shop from but won't pull the trigger on their high price tags before "knowing what I'm doing"
