Gnome freezes randomly with 125% scaling

I just installed Bazzite with Gnome and got this inconsistent issue of whole PC freezing and becoming unresponsive but audio still works. so far it's happened twice while watching youtube. first time happened after 7 min of watching youtube. second time happened when I tried to reload the page. I'm on a Laptop, a thinkpad T14 Gen 1, cpu: Ryzen 4600U using zen browser.

hmmm it seems you have 16gb of RAM

That's right, I'm not running out of RAM. This issue has only happened on Bazzite with Gnome so far Ok. so I seem to have narrowed it down to Zen Browser, I can't reproduce the problem on LibreWolf

New update, this happens when going fullscreen in a discord call with someone sharing screen

@Squeakz You might try disabling hardware accel on apps that use web interfaces like browsers or discord. I'll dig into that log I swear there was something that helped me with an issue like this before

alright, I had scaling set at 125%; puttin this at 100% removes the problem, sucks to use a laptop at 100% scaling tho

@Squeakz According to this thread - https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=2239072#p2239072 "Known for months, AMD is still investigating. amdgpu.runpm=0 amdgpu.dcdebugmask=0x10 for kernel arguments should fix it at the expense of a much higher idle power consumption." I had this issue on my laptop (it was having issues hanging when I used web browsers) but it seems to have been fixed for my chip at least as its working now.

using a display scale other than 100%/200%?
maverick
maverickโ€ข5w ago
I can't confirm that was what caused it. I generally use scale 100 and lower my resolution now though, but I can test trying it out with scaling Gnome-Boxes has miniscule text if I use scaling.

everything is perfectly scaled for me with 125% scaling, only issue is the hanging when fullscreening discord calls and youtube videos

Ill see if I can do some digging but it likely won't be tonight. possibly related upstream bug - https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/issues/2950

I found this
i added "amdgpu.dcdebugmask=0x412 amdgpu.lockup_timeout=100000" the memory addresses might be different on your amd gpu, I got a navi33 chipset.
This issue is gone for me since 3-4 month, after adding this and performing an update-grub.

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/issues/2950#note_3038157 Someone said they still got flip_done timed out with those kernel paremeter tweaks Workaround: Set the display scaling to 100% and enable 'Large Text' in the Accessibility settings. This will make most elements appear as though they are set to 125% scaling
